Great SSD Adapter, Great for SSD Data Retrieval
My wife's 12 year old Lenovo Z580 laptop quit working. The laptop wouldn't boot very far. The screen backlight would light up but didn't show any characters or the welcome graphics, so basically it didn't successfully do much Bios. There was some fan action. We took it apart and tried to do the debug suggested on several videos, it wasn't the RAM, it wasn't the CMOS lithium battery. ...so we bought a new laptop. We went with a new Lenovo. The old one had worked well.We bought this to attempt a retrieval of her data. The 'hard drive' was a Intel SSD 330 Series 240GB, which is a 2.5 inch form factor 5Volt SSD drive. This adapter just worked, plug in the drive then plug in the old classic form factor USB. The adapter looks to be pretty solid, the insertion seemed positive but not too snug. The Microsoft OS immediately recognized it as a D: drive and ta da! we can copy the data as needed. There is a nice light that shows that the device is powered. For us it was very functional. We're keeping it around in case we want further data access, or really for any drive use. You can get a 256GB thumb drive pretty cheap these days so copying the data to a safe portable place is a good idea. There were some didn't work reviews, I wonder if they tried to use it with either broken drives or 3.5" drives which use 12Volts. So double check the voltage of what you're plugging in. For us it worked wonderfully. There really aren't instructions on using this,... they aren't needed. It was great for getting the data off the old SSD 'hard' drive.

Money well spent
This is probably my best purchase on Amazon yet. My older laptop died, couldn't boot it up to update my files on my external hard drive. After spending a week trying to get Windows repaired, I decided to look for a cable to get my files off of my drive. This works great, and using it now. I am transferring the files to a older desktop which has 32 gb of ram. The speed of the cable is good for the amount of files I have. It is easy to use, just connect. Recommend if you need to retrieve files off of a hard drive.

Cable connection issues
Worked well at first, but now it has trouble connecting to the hard drive. Not sure if it is the drive or the cable, but I have to push the cable up and hold pressure on it before it will make a connection. Might be the drive, hence 4 stars

Value priced, meets or exceeds description, works as advertised and is a value.
I purchase several things on Amazon and was giving pretty in-depth reviews. From this point on, here's the new agenda…. if it works as advertised, is well made, meets or exceeds the description, is a value, and arrives in a fair amount of time, it will get a "star rating" equal to what my expectations were/are. If it doesn't meet these criteria, then I will most definitely and descriptively tell the short comings of the products and you as a consumer will not have to go through the trouble of buying the product without some background knowledge. If the sell pulls that item and relists under another description, I will put the exact same review on the seller's feedback page. Sellers have done this a couple of times in the past, and I was true to my word then as well as now. DR

Does Not Work on Raspberry 4 or 5 with Patriot 512GB SSD Drives
Note: This adapter MAY work with other environments (MacOS, Windows, etc.). My use case was specific to Raspberry Pi hardware. So, consider my 1 STAR review specific to my use case. With multiple adapters and multiple Patriot P210 512GB Internal SSDs (Amazon B087K9MCLM), experienced non-stop freezes, resets, and overall slowness on Linux 6.1.x (Raspberry Pi 4) and Linux 6.6.x (Raspberry Pi 5). Essentially unusable on this hardware platform. My use case requires these to work "out of box" so I did not try any tweaking or "USB quirks." Device shows as:Bus 002 Device 002: ID 152d:0578 JMicron Technology Corp. / JMicron USA Technology Corp.
