Got this to crush my cat's pills. She's very picky and we need to hide here meds in cat treats. This does the trick admirably. Easy to use and keeps all the crushed pills safely contained. Way easier than trying to crush pills with the back of a spoon.

I'll start off by saying that this isn't a "new" product for me, exactly. Rather, it's just me buying the smaller version of a larger unit which I've been using, happily, for years.My wife and I own pets, and over the years, several of these pets have needed to receive medicine at times. Now, giving cats, in particular, medicine is... challenging, at best. ("Impossible" at worst!)My wife is able to stick a pill down a cat's throat using her finger, but I can't make myself do that... call it a phobia if you like, but the idea of harming the animal sort of freaks me out.Using "Pill pockets" or other "food wraps" is pretty effective... until the first time that the cat bites down and discovers what's inside. After that, using "pill pockets" becomes essentially impossible. So, I'll use that approach if I can, but often can't.SO... the last trick, which works nicely when the pill involved isn't TOO nasty-tasting, is this: crushing it and mixing it into food. Usually a pretty fragrant food, which they're really fond of, works best. This WON'T work for particularly terrible-tasting pills, but for most, it works pretty well.And the larger version of this has been what I've been using to do my pill-crushing for about fifteen years now. The only complaint I ever had with this was that the compartment seemed too large for the volume of crushed pill powder I was left with once done.Well, I'm going to be away for a while, and I'm taking my two furrballs with me (while the others will stay with her), and I needed my own copy for this period. I was assuming I'd just get the same one, but was pleasantly surprised to find that there's a smaller version as well.The smaller version is far better suited to the amount of medication you'll usually give to pets, or to small children. The larger one is best suited, honestly, to "adult-sized" doses, in my opinion.It's trivially easy to use. Drop the pill(s) into the compartment, and screw the top section in. I'll usually screw and unscrew the last portion several times to ensure that I get the pill fully crushed. I then simply remove the top (tapping it on the side of the crushing compartment if there's any residual pill powder on the "core" of it), and then just dump the contents of the crushing compartment over the food (again, tapping it if necessary to get as much out as possible.If you're using the same medicine every time, there's no real need to wash it every time, but if you're doing multiple types of medications using one crusher, you'll likely want to wash it off every time. That's easy... dishwashing soap and a nice hand washing works perfectly, along with air drying (I doubt it's "dishwasher safe," however, so don't try that!)It's a very simple design... not many chances for things to go wrong... but it works very, very well. It reminds me of my own childhood, with my mom crushing stuff with a spoon to give to the kids. This is much, much better.If you have a need to do what this does... you're not going to find many better options.

This pill crusher makes crushing even the hardest pill easy. Very sturdy and easy to open and close with enough storage for a bigger qty of pills it’s a little big for small purses but it is travel sized.

Works great to crush my dog’s pills. Easy to use

This is very convenient when you get tired of swallowing those horse pills, or you just don't do pills very well. You can twist once or twice to get most of the pill smashed. If you want it more fine like, you can twist it a little more. I'm going to start adding mine to either cocoa or smoothies. This is easy peasy to twist, I would say even for those tired achy fingers, you should be okay. I was impressed. It stores conveniently in small places. I think the price was more than fair for what you are getting. The quality seems to be nice and solid. I can't imagine ever having to replace it. I would recommend this item to anyone in need of this.

Where has this been all my life? My dogs are very high maintenance when it comes to taking meds. I’ve tried to hide them in cheese, treats, pill pockets, etc. Somehow they are able to “get around” the pill and just eat the good part. This makes it so easy to crush their meds and stir in their food.

The pills I need to crush are large and strong. To hide the pills in my dog meals the pills must be reduced to fine dust. After 6 or 7 cycles I can crush the pills to a fine powder however even more fine would be much preferred. If the pill pieces are sand size my dog will detect it and refuse.I'll go back to my original method. Fold a paper in quarters. Smash with medium size soft face hammer until pill is a fine dust. At least the pill crusher is quieter method.Cream Cheese is a wonderful way to hide dog pills, unlike gravy it does not pick up the taste of the pill. However if a pill upsets my dogs tummy he will quit taking even cream cheese.Alleluia is a 130# black lab and quite clever. A dog half his size I can force a pill. He has a head larger than a volley ball and one might force him to take a pill one or twice but not every morning.UPDATE: This morning Alleluia started his thyroid pills which are small and not super firm. On those this pill crusher does a fine job, so you results achieve are dependent on the pills you need to crush.
