Great detail. Highlights varying needs between female/male climbers. Appropriately sets the tone for how serious the Denali climb attempt is.So pumped - let the training continue!!

As part of an unguided team attempting the mountain this may, I found Colby's guide to be a good starting point for breaking through the assumptions of the climb into the realities.As the only member of my team who hasn't been on the mountain before, I feel more equipped to go toe to toe at least on the basis of planning our trip. This is by far the most detailed climbing guide I have ever encountered. The text combined with the Washburn photos allows a climber to anticipate almost every aspect of the Butt. When I climbed it in May 2013, I felt like I already knew the route when I first stepped onto the Kahiltna.Note that there are a ton of photos. They are B&W, so the Kindle does a decent job showing them. The paper version is definitely better in that respect, but both work.

Scary and awesome book. Gear list is dated but a good starting point. Wish it had more details about how to plan your own trip in terms of food prep, calories, packaging etc. Some of the descriptions of the route had my b-hole clenching! :)

Want an idea of the traditional climbing route and schedule? This is the book. Good descriptions of the days you'll face when pushing your way up the big mountain. Straightforward and helpful for anyone trying to plan or just understand what to expect.

I would have to review it again after the climb. But for now, seems like it answered all of the questions I had. The photos weren't very clear on the Kindle, but not a big deal to me.

Excellent from start to finish with informative details regarding planning, equipment and routes. The history of the mountain itself gives you more of an insight and a personal being of Denali rather than just a Challenge summit.I hope to attempt to summit of Denali in 2016 via the West Buttress to add to the other summits across the world.http://jasonsmith.me.uk

It provides all the basic, practical information for a climb, with phographs showing the route. It is a pity that the photos are in black and white.
