March 22, 2014 - My Review of the iLevel 12IN Dynamic Laptop Rasier by Rain Design
Rain Design Inc iLevel 360 Turning Ratio Stand 12"Though I did not buy this stand from Amazon (I bought it directly from the manufacturer), the iLevel 360 Turning Ratio Stand 12" by Rain Design is beautifully engineered. March 17, 2014, I received my iLevel 360 turning ratio stand. My iPad Air and Macbook Pro 13" fits well on this stand (one device at a time). I searched for a good and effective 360 turning ratio stand; and this particular stand offers exactly what I wanted. My Apple devices sits nicely on the ergonomically designed platform. Underneath the stand is space to put small items out-of-sight (small notebook, sticky, etc.).I researched several stands and choose the iLevel 360 turning ratio for this purpose. This stands good-looks is silver painted metal (has weight; it stays put) and its ergonomic design sold me. I am greatly satisfied with my purchase, Keep in mind this stand is a 360 turning ratio design; This manufacture also designed stands that are fixed (no turning). Make sure you check up the detail to ensure the size is suitable for you.My researched showed me the iLevel fixed stands (12" and 14") have weight; but the iLevel 360 turning ration stands (12" and 14") weight a bit more due to the addition of a turntable. In all, yes there is metal weight; but use your better-judgement and if needed assistance to maneuver these stands.Another concern is the fact that it is a 360 turning ratio stand that moves easily with the slightest bump. I have tested this stand by placing my Apple devices (one at a time) on the stands platform; and yes brushing or bumping the stand will easily cause it to move. In hind-sight, a lever would have served the purpose to hold the stand in different degrees of fixed positions or allow it to move freely. I do not fault this logic; however it is still a beautifully engineered stand. So either buy a fixed stand or place an object to hold the 360 turning ratio in a fixed position and still have the turning ratio when needed. And lastly, there were concern of scratching. Possibly previous engineered design was different (I am just saying or possibly a flawed design) then what it is today. The concern was two screws located at the foot of the platform (where the angle meets a Lip to prevent device from falling) would scratch a device. I checked my stand and the screws are flushed and leveled with the surrounding metal and not protruding outward. With anything these days you could improvise and in this case add a piece of felt, etc., to run-along the lip covering the screws and therefore protecting your device. In conclusion, I bought this stand for its solid built and good looks and give it five starts for its ergonomically design platform.

Not for Macbooks!!! It will scratch your PC!!!
I bought this stand for my macbook pro because it was advertised to work well with one, and that's what's pictured in their marketing material. I'm dismayed that it didn't work out ...This notebook stand shipped well and appeared slick and sturdy out of the box. It's plenty heavy and it does give you a sense of security that it will never buckle nor budge under the weight of a seventeen inch macbook pro. In fact, out of the box it looked and felt quite impressive. However upon use, there are a number of problems with this stand. Bad problems. For one, this stand will scratch your $2500+ macbook (mine was about $3500) ...It's hard to explain so bear with me. There is a rubberized T shaped bar that's supposed to prevent the notebook from slipping down the incline. This T-bar isn't welded to the baseplate, it's *screwed* (was there a pun there?). In fact there are *two* screws that hold the T-bar in place. The problem is these screws are on the inside of the T-bar facing your notebook. Now, there was an attempt at beveling such that the screws lay flat so they don't jut out and scratch your PC, but no dice, there wasn't enough beveling! The end result is your laptop will never touch the rubberized T-bar at all but will rather rest on those two jutting screws and of course ... get scratched! And? There's worse. Those two philips screws were stripped and burred by a laborer who doesn't know how to use a screwdriver! My $3500 laptop was resting on a series of burs (ding!) rather than that rubberized T-bar! The darned thing scratch up my $3500 notebook! There are other design problems as well ...That T-bar that doesn't do anything? It actually does. It prevents you from opening a shut computer. That's because you can't press that elongated open-button on your macbook anymore because the T is in the way! Nice design! But there's more. That same T-bar also blocks your CD slot! Imagine you forgetting you have a CD in your your machine and you eject it ... boing!A few other things you should be aware of ...This stand swivels. The slightest touch will send your laptop spinning. And by virtue of the design, it can spin right into your brand new aluminum keyboard (ding!) if you don't have ample distance between your stand and your keyboard. Personally, I like my keyboard really close to the laptop so the laptop is closer to me. In fact I like my keyboard somewhat underneath my laptop. You can't do that with this design. I ended up wedging my l bluetooth keyboard into the stand so it wouldn't spin and so my machine was closer. The downside to that? Aluminum against steel. Ding!Obviously, I don't recommend this stand! Beware ...Cheers!

A great stand
This is a great stand. I've had mine for several years with no problems. It is very solid (metal). I haven't had any issues with screws or scratches like a previous reviewer did. Perhaps he received a defective unit.
