Tachyon Micro HD Helmet Camera

Awesome dive camera
I really spent a lot of time looking for my first dive camera. I read reviews on dozens of different web sites, written by both enthusiastic amateurs and professional photographers, and compared everything from $50 disposables through $500 video systems. I eventually settled on the Tachyon Micro HD.I have taken this on over 15 dives in the West Indies and am absolutely convinced I made the correct choice. The video is crystal clear and I get great battery life (using the recommended Energizer Ultimate Lithiums). I've taken it down to 75 feet and there was zero leakage. Also, the Tachyon didn't suffer any condensation problems (unlike a dive buddy who had one of the small cameras with an external plastic case). Finally, I had occasion to contact customer service with a minor question and was Blown Away by their helpful, friendly, and Can Do attitude. These guys are super fantastic and they make a fine product. I am a lifelong customer.

It's the best fit for me
This is the perfect diving & snorkeling camera for me. With previous dive cameras I was always missing shots, never sure if I had turned it on or off, constantly fiddling with the camera instead of enjoying the dive and what I was seeing. With the Tachyon none of that happens.I attached the universal mount to my mask with a couple of wires glued to the mask. The camera clips in and out very easily but is held securely when clipped in. It will take a HD picture every 2 seconds or 720P HD video. I can turn it on and capture my entire dive or snorkel without another thought. For anyone who dives, limiting task loading is a real benifit. Once home I enjoy editing the video (or picking out the best pictures). It is a way to re-experience the dive/vacation.

Tachron Micro
I took this with me when i go scuba diving in lajolla cove in san deigo and the HD picture is just incredible so easy to operated i really like the fact even with the back door that houses the memory card and sound, you can still can hear pretty good i can hear the bubbles from my ragulater for under water usage its awesome. I also like using a remote control submarine and i attach it to the top of it and i get some great fottage. The price i think is good and top quality i also use it when i go moutain biking and rock climbing. I have banged it many time this thing just keeps on going. the main reason why i bought it was because it's water proof and it can go deep. bad things about it can't take still pictures or see what your taking but come on it's a action video camera no need for it. I will recommeand this to my freindsJim

Too hard to use
this thing can get decent video in daylight but it's so hard to use that it's almost impossible to know if it's recording or not. It eats up batteries. I've missed too many moments using this thing. I had a $60 cheapo helmet cam that worked like a charm and included a screen to tell you if its on or if you're capturing video. The lack of an internal battery means you'll spend more than the value of the camera on batteries.

With good batteries, I would get around 1 - 2 ...
This camera performs poorly in low-light and has next to no ability for sound. I bought it so that I could use it on my helmet airsofting. I bought it for the removable, non-proprietary batterys and the cost. For that purpose it mostly did it's job well. With good batteries, I would get around 1 - 2 hours of record time per set of batteries. A 32gb SD card would hold about 8 hours of video. That is fantastic for me!

Very Very Disappointed
I see a lot of people stoked about this product, and at first I was. Until I tried to use it. Perhaps I just got a defective unit. Too many CONS to keep: The biggest problem I had with the unit was inserting the MicroSD card, it just did not function properly. It was spring loaded and sometimes would shoot the micro sd card a few feet into the air. That can't be good for the card, and if it happens to go down a storm drain or get lost in a gravel bed, that's not good either. I would try to press it in, it wouldn't 'stick', do it again, and again, 15 minutes later I realized something wasn't quite right with the unit. Endless fumbling. The unit should have an LED that when the card is inserted properly should glow green or something. (When the case was shut, it could stop the LED to save batteries or something.) The unit has cryptic LED blinks for diagnostics, doesn't help a lot when you don't have the manual handy and are missing the action you are supposed to be recording. It was a non-stop fumble trying to get the device to recognize the card. I bought good quaility SanDisk 32 gig chips, it seemed to recognize them after much fumbling, but only recorded 2gb out of the 32gigs before I had to change them. That's terrible. When you are on a backpacking trip, you don't exactly have access to a computer to see what's going on with the memory, you have to wait until you get home to find out you recorded nothing. If I put a new Memory stick in, it should perform a format/check sum to make sure the card is good and then let the user know it's been tested /accepted and the media is ready to be used. Not wait until your action moment has arrived, then just blink off.The unit is durable, waterproof, and works sometimes....but not when I really wanted it to. The video looks grainy, it lacks much detail. I know my miniDV tape recorder 10 years ago was better. Forget about sound quality...it's terrible, unit needs external microphone.PROS: Unit recorded in .MOV and was accessible by my Mac and PC via USB.Unit is tough.Unit seems to be waterproof, had it down about 8' in a stream under a waterfall. Although the unit said it was recording, it recorded nothing. I'm sooooo livid about that part.Units going back. There are some other helmet cameras that are about 2x the money that I will gladly buy. Expensive is when the product is not worth the money. Caveat Emptor!

U get what u paid for
Daytime recording is pretty good. I used it on a 2000 mile ride in rain and shine (daytime mainly) and captured great footage. Draw back is sound will be non exsistent unless the latch is opened in the rear. Other drawback is the lowlight capture. Perhaps good software should solve this? Otherwise pretty rugged and basic.
