Beautiful and useful
The book is a must. Read the synopsis prior to going to an opera. It will allow you fully understand what is going on, on stage or screen. Beautifully done by The Metropolitan Opera in New York City

GREAT RESOURCE
OPERA HOUSES TEND TO TAKE LIBERTIES WITH THEIR PRODUCTIONS TO 'KEEP THINGS FRESH'. SOMETIMES IN DOING SO, THEY LOSE SOME OF THE CONTINUITY. ENTER THIS BOOK. IT GETS YOU UP TO SPEED.

Great for lesser known operas
As the Met now offers a Streaming Service in addition to the Cinema broadcasts, this volume is incredibly helpful now that their repertoire has begun to include old, lesser known operas such as “Agrapinna” as well as new works such as “Nixon in China.”This even includes the first modern opera I remember hearing on the Texaco broadcast as a child, “Ghosts of Versailles.”Definitely not the first Story of Operas book one should purchase, but if you own one already (they tend to cover the standard operas everyone thinks of) this would easily grow your collection.
