This reel taught me how to use a baitcaster!
I'm new to baitcasting and I am still practicing, whenever I get a chance. So, how do I know this is a good baitcaster if I haven't fished with it yet?First, I bought a baitcaster reel+rod combo for $85 in Walmart, about 2 years ago, because I really wanted to get in to learn baitcasting. It is a brand name, most fishermen would recognize, I won't say no more, because they do have excellent products, but some of the gear, what they make is just horrifyingly bad. So as a beginner, I started practicing on that and of course, all I was getting was backlashes and it just felt so useless and cheap. The entire practice was just a major frustration and I completely given up trying to learn and the rod+reel combo ended up in my garage and swore that I will never touch it again. This year, I changed my mind after watching others and here I am with 30+ years of fishing experience, but can't use a baitcaster. So I took the reel off the rod, and bought one of these. Still didn't want to get anything pro with 4x the price of this, because I was afraid, that this will also ends up in the garage or the trash and didn't want to waste to much money.Amazingly after like 20min (and after a couple of youtube videos), I started to get it. Of course I got some backlashes and my accuracy is way off, but this reel is just excellent and feels waaay better than the other brand-name /more expensive one! After a few days of practice now, I feel confindent to cast in short distances and my accuracy is improving to a point, that it almost feel like I got Jedi powers and I can hit individual beer cans from 50 feet!Lesson learned...brand name and expensive options may not guarantee quality.

Fantastic Reel!!! This is a Musky getter
Ok I bought this for my lighter musky fishing, I used it all day throwing up to 3oz baits. It never missed a beat, not one bird nest smooth as silk.I teamed it up with 50 lb spider wire handled it perfect. I bought 125 years and there was quite a lot still on the spool. This is a perfect reel for the lighter musky stuff how will it handle a musky, we will see. How will it hold up? We will see. It is user friendly. My big musky reels and rods take there toll on my arms. If this reel holds up for one season fishing once a week 11 hours a day, I will be happy. If I get 2 years I will be in pardise. The pic below is one my grandson caugh 6/8/17 Here in Wv 41.5 17" rubber swimbaitJuly 2016 I have used this real very hard throw up to 4 ounce baits, has not missed a beat. I caught all these muskies in the pictures on this reel, handled them absolutely perfect. You need to take the spool out and put some grease down in the dog gear if you hear a grinding sound that will fix the problem. There is nothing wrong with the real it's just they are skimpy on their grease cost money you know. I am guess I have 40 hours of had use and it still doing great, there is no paint showing signs of wear either. I will give a update.

Looks can be deceiving....
I don’t usually leave reviews on negative experiences, I just chalk it up to a lesson learned and move on to a more quality company. BUT, I feel compelled to leave a review on this product. I will start by saying that out of the box this reel looks great and feels like a quality unit. That’s where the positives end for me though. Ive used the reel twice and the biggest issue I have with this reel is the spool tension knob. It just will NOT stay put unless it’s set to the highest setting. Every cast it seems to work it’s way a little looser until you’re left with what can only be despcribed as the nastiest backlash/birdsnest you’ve ever experienced. The magnetic braking does not seem to make a difference unless it’s set to the minimum or maximum, there doesn’t seem to be an in between. My first outting with it (and I’m no novice baitcaster user) cost me 100yds of 12lb braid that literally had to be cut off the reel cutting my day very short. I figured, ok, maybe I need to step it up in size on my braid hoping a heavier line would solve the problem. Nope, moved up to a 30lb test braid and the same issues were experienced. There seems to be no happy setting on this reel to keep the line from overspool unless you have everything cranked own which gives you maybe a 10’ cast at best. My second issue with the reel is the line guide, it only moves across the spool when it wants to even after numerous adjustments, it binds and sticks to one spot while reeling causing the line to spool heavier to one side or the other depending on where the guide stops mid spool.I’m short I’m very displeased with this purchase, I had thought i would give it a shot as it looked like a quality unit without the 10x markup you get with name brands. I guess this too is an example of you get what you pay for. I may give the company another shot and buy the more expensive Assassin model but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t on the fence so to speak. Two outings with this baitcaster and it’s cost me two spools worth of braid, the first was their own brand of 12lb braid and the second was 30lb spiderwire. Not only am I out the money on the reel but I’m now also out the money for two different spools of braid. Buyers beware, maybe I just got a defective unit but after seeing some of the other reviews I’m thinking that’s not the case and it’s just too cheaply made. Maybe the Assassin will be of better quality as it’s almost twice the price.

Average lifespan.. 6 mos.
Fun reels at first they cast a mile and seem great. If I had written this review at 1 month in I would have given 5 stars. But durability is the real test so I waited. I've had two now and one completely quit at about 6 mos and the other is starting to make some really ugly noises at about the same time frame. It will die soon. And it's just not worth getting it repaired (if anyone in the U.S. can.) So if you think you might use it a lot or want to buy a reel that will actually last then spend a few $ more and get a lews or shimano now instead of having to just having to buy a better reel later. The reel itself is probably worth more than one star but it's the terrible investment that I'm voting on. Please vote this as helpful I really would have loved to have known this.

A great little multiplier, more fun than a fixed spool!!!
It's now 2020 and I have been using this reel over 4 years now, it's the second one I've bought, (I bought one last year), I go carp fishing, My lake has carp up to 25lb and this little beastie knows, they handle big fighting carp with ease. I fish unconventionally in that I use this with an 11ft puddle chucker and float fish with the reel underneath. Never has they let me down, nor has it made any strange noises, I'd give it more than 5 stars if'n I could. Note, at end of year 2 it started grinding a bit but stripped it down and flushed out the old grease, new grease throughout still works a dream. I do this with all my reels anyway, often get grit in the level wind mechanism. I've never had line go behind the spool like I do with my other multipliers. great reel thanks Kastking!! There are others on the market for a lot less dosh but there ain't no such thing as a free lunch, you get what you pay for. I see there's a later model out now but my pair are still good, but I may be tempted, watch this space..

Good for beginners but some intermittent issues
So i have been using this reel for a few weeks now. Ive used on the Thames, canals, and mostly small waters. I used it with some 10lb mono line.I find its generally a good real. However, at times, it makes funny noises when casting, and the line locks up every now again. Although this is my first ever bait caster, after 2 short sessions, i was able to master long casts, and small precise casts very quickly. This was partly skill (fished all my life) but also this reel. Its so easy to use, it makes lure fishing a real pleasure. The reason i have rated it lower stars is due to what i think is a quality control issue. My brother has a more expensive model and his reel has now failed totally (bail arm doesn't click into place when turning the reel handle, ball bearings are making a strange noise). I know there's something wrong my with reel, but it seems intermittent and i can live with it. I think next time, i will have the experience to buy something more expensive and reliable, but for anyone looking to start using one of these reels, this is a great purchase!
