Very good
This is an enjoyable story, similar to others I have read but the characters are intriguing and the sense of place excellent - there is a definite reality despite it being fiction; this because it resonates with the corruption of those in power throughout history and today. It's well written (although it does have a number of grammatical issues), fast-paced and a great plot. For a YA readership and tackles important topics like loyalty, expectations, bullying and lies.A recommended read.

Getting the Divergent feel
This had me gripped from the first chapter. An interesting take on a dystopian society. If you have read the Divergent Series, you will enjoy a similar coming of age selection process, however in this one the characters get no decision in where they are placed. This adds to the suspense of the book and leaves us as frustrated as the characters as events are dictated. Sit back and enjoy the corruption unfold! Can't wait to read the next book.

Absolute page turner
This book was brilliant. It had me gripped from the start. The storyline was great and progressed well.I liked the characters. I particularly like Theo. The character development in him is vast and great to read. There was plenty of action and excitement throughout. Overall, it was just brilliant. I'm looking forward to reading the next so would definitely recommend this book.

Good for younger dystopian fans
Great story line. Some characters are very similar to the ones in the hunger games. The story line is very simple. Good for light reading.

Another fantastic instalment
REALLY enjoyed this series. I have now read every book by this author and have never been let down. He releases books quite quickly yet there’s are no grammatical or spelling mistakes unlike some other authors who do not have that attention to detail. I love the characters in the books however I would like to see a bit more diversity. Especially when it comes to sexuality. But overall one of my favourite series by a favourite author.

Great read
As other reviewers have said, there are a lot of similarities to Divergent (a lot!) With that said, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters were well described and the plot well paced. The ending of this has definitely made me want read the next book - I need to know what happens next!

Enjoyable!
A good read!It starts off a bit like Divergent, Hunger Games etc., but once the main character travels to Eden it become more unique and I enjoyed the concept of The Watchers. It is well written, with colourful descriptions and fast paced. I will be reading book 2!

Exciting Read for Sure.
At first I wasn't sure if I was going to get into the book. The book surprised me though. I won't share too many details and spoil it for everyone who hasn't read it yet, but it's a dismal setting. The world is completely different than it is now, with a lot of the landscape of North America decimated. The sea has risen, the climates have changed. People are ruled by one leader, Chancellor Knight, who is over one hundred years old, but still has smooth, young looking skin. He's kept alive through medical advancements that are only available to the rich. He has set up a system that uses genetics, along with aptitude tests to place people in their most compatible job and it also calculates the best person to be paired with to produce the best offspring. If your parents are fishermen, then usually the children follow in their footsteps, but not always. No one gets to choose what they do for a living or who they want as their mate. They don't choose where they live. Food is the currency. People on the mainland have rations that they must work for. If they don't work, then they don't get any rations and when they can't work anymore then they just starve to death. If they don't comply, then they are banished to the other side of the wall, which is supposedly a barren wasteland. The city where the chancellor lives is called Eden and is a city in which all technological advancements are created and implemented. People wear nicer clothing and are groomed and clean unlike the main landers whom are looked down upon. There are other sea cities. Some are very similar to Eden, but there is one called Atlantis that is a free city. It's grimy and rough. It's like Las Vegas with its gambling and prostitution. They use paper money to pay for things there. It's an interesting read and I look forward to reading book 2 and finding out what happens between Cyra, Jackson, Theo, Ellie and the leader of the rebellion.

great reads
I loved it. Would surely continue the series. Before starting it you don't need to know anything about it. Just start reading and let the story unravel.

Awesome Storyline - Editing Isn't Great Though
I would have given 5☆ if it weren't for the editing mistakes I came across. 17 in total. I've read books with more mistakes but that's quite a few missed...The story is awesome though; a hint of Hunger Games, Divergent, The Testing, and The Union sagas all mixed with a cool premise of "The Watchers" gifts which sets it apart from the others. I like how the author skipped over some parts of the journey to keep the storyline moving. From time to time, there were some repeated thoughts that probably could've been removed without damaging the story. All in all, I loved it and cant wait to read the second book. I've already purchased it!!!!! Thanks T.C. Edge!
