I have a wall-mounted TV, and HDMI was being finicky with my equipment. Since the Optical is wired behind a 96" TV, that would have required getting professionals to take it down to plug in the ARC's Optical adapter.Instead, I just plugged the optical cable into this coupler right at my sound bar, and instantly got 5.1 Dolby Digital. I suppose 5.2, since I have dual subwoofers.It's a simplistic adapter, but makes possible over $2K of equipment to work flawlessly.
