Vic FIrth - Signature Series Drumsticks - Danny Carey - Wood Tip

Great pair of Danny Carey drumsticks.

I first bought these sticks out of curiosity, marvelled at their girth and decided I wouldn't be using them -- I was a fan of the "Power 5a" Vater sticks at the time. Then I gave them a go, and ... they worked. The taper is lovely, putting your fingers at just the right balance point and reducing slippage, then you can drop back to the butt if you need more power. They do need a bit of wrist strength to throw, but not that much: perfectly possible to play fast and intricate with these. And the extra heft does give a bigger sound: I now find 5a and even 5b sticks a bit too insubstantial (though of course that's partly just familiarity). They've also lasted well for me, by contrast to the nearly as chunky Gavin Harrison signature sticks, which broke a bit too often for my liking: these have just whittled down until the sound starts to suffer and replacement is needed. Recommend: the more people use 'em, the less chance of my favourite sticks being discontinued!

Absolutely love the shape and weight of it, mixed feelings about the durability though.

Bought these for my boyfriend as a Christmas gift. He says that the nylon tips are much better than wooden tips and that these sticks have a perfect weight and balance. He is a very happy customer!

Been using these with my electric kit, I don't have a huge amount of experience playing with different sticks to feel the difference in size or shaping of the handles but I'm certainly very pleased with the result. At least you can claim that you're developing more wrist strength wielding such beastly sticks, although on the other hand you could say you might notice a negative impact on your playing with "normal" sized sticks.

Why are you reading this? Just buy these epic sticks and try them for yourself. Danny Carey is legend and has created a completely unique stick. Plenty of power and speed from these!

great sticks at a great price

Absolutely love Danny carey, so it was exciting to buy his signature series sticks. Much to my upset the sticks broke after a single use. See picture and you can clearly see no scoring or damage on the shaft i.e no hard hitting. For reference I use 7a hickory sticks and have a pair that have lasted two years. Definately be aware they break like match sticks for such large sticks. Very odd indeed.

Thick pair of sticks, but surprisingly very well-balanced. Love the small grooves near the butt ends.

Used these before so knew what I was getting. Happy that the wood grain is straight and tight as I like it. Well matched pair, Vic Firth quality.
