Expensive, but worth it
Can't deny Japanese quality is one of the best, if not the best, in the world. Cooked rice and congee with this cooker, and the results are nothing short of spectacular. Part of the reason I got this was because of hands free congee cooking. That being said, normal rice comes out perfect. One thing to note, it takes more time to cook compared to other cookers, as do all good things, it takes time.

... is the right product for those who want to enjoy their rice just right
This rice cooker is the right product for those who want to enjoy their rice just right. It has a variety of functions to cook different type of rice and other type of food (I haven't tried this yet). The quality of the cooker is much better that the other similar I had so far and the pan I hope it will last for many years if it washed with care. This item was shipped twice to me as the first time it did not reach in a good condition. Yet, the people from 'Rice Passion' have been excellent in replacing it. I would definitely order from they again.

Expensive.
I’ve had a bog standard rice cooker for about ten years with no hassle. Decided to upgrade. Was torn between 5.5 and 10 cup..glad I went for the smaller, it’s more than enough.Machine cooks perfect white and sushi rice. Congee not so much..it turns into a gloop, which is a pity - I’ll need to stick to using a pot and cooking congee myself. I even had a couple of incidents where the rice stuck really bad to the pot when I tried to cook congee. Not great. My wife is Chinese and prefers a wetter rice though, so she’s not as mad about the cooker as me.Apart from that though, it’s a fantastic cooker. Setting a timer to have rice ready is great. Is it worth all that money? Probably not. The premium rice setting is pointless, just stick with the normal rice. You would want to be a maniac to think the flavour is different using the premium function. In fairness Though, the quick rice function is great. I’m hoping that it’ll last for a long time and that’s where the money went.

Surely there can’t be any better rice cookers than this one
I bought this to replace a basic one-button rice cooker that had served me well for over 20 years and probably would have gone on for another 20, but it always had a tendency to scorch the bottom layer of rice. I’d considered Zojirushi’s next model down, but I thought if I’m going to be spending this kind of money on something I’ve essentially already got, I might as well pay the extra for an actual Made In Japan one. It’s fantastic! I love it! Rice tastes so much better cooked in this thing, it’s in a different league to my old cooker. Ten times as expensive, so it probably should be, but the difference is incredibly obvious. It’s foolproof, nothing sticks or burns on the bottom of the pan, the grains come out plump and glossy every time. It tastes sweeter, the texture is better, and there’s no waste at all because every grain is perfectly cooked. It takes a long time to cook, whatever setting you use - 50 minutes to an hour for most rice - which is a big change from my old one that nuked rice in about 10 minutes, but the key is that you don’t have to set it so it’s ready exactly when the rest of your meal is. You can start it any time you like, even the night before, and the rice doesn’t seem to suffer at all from being kept warm for ages. If it’s cooked at 8am and you eat at 8pm, that’s not a problem. It doesn’t actually tell you how long it’s going to take until the last few minutes, so I guess this is how it’s meant to be used in a Japanese home - you’d put a big pot of rice on in the morning and use it throughout the day. The capacity of this one is more than enough for my family of three. On the negative side, it gave off an acrid smell of hot circuit boards and plastic the first few times I used it, which was really not nice at all. The Zojirushi site says that’s normal and will fade, which it has, but it was quite disconcerting at the time. The rice is tightly sealed inside the cooking pan, so it wasn’t tainted, but... ewww.Another thing to note is that it’s calibrated for Japanese-style short/medium grain rice. If you want to cook long grains, like basmati or jasmine, there’s a page on the Zojirushi site for each model of rice cooker that tells you how many cups of water to add, so you’re not supposed to use the measuring lines on the side of the cooking pan (it’s 1.25 cups of water per cup of jasmine, 1.5 for basmati). This means you have an added step of draining the rice after washing it, rather than doing everything in the cooking pan like you would for Japanese rice. An extra marker in the pan for these types of rice would have been welcome. Finally, it makes *amazing* overnight porridge. Oats + water + this thing = unfeasibly creamy and delicious porridge. It’s my new favourite kitchen gadget, and from now on every meal at my place is having rice or oatmeal (or both).

Life changing in a small way
A ridiculous price however, perfect rice and huge flexibility. It changes the way that you use rice and think about meal preparation. If it died, I would replace like for like tomorrow.

Appeared Not new. Used item
Box had previously been opened and ripped. Bowl showed signs of being used. Appeared to be a returned item resold as new.As for the cooking of rice. It does a perfect job!! I can cook good rice in a pot on the stove but this thing takes it to the next level. You will not regret the quality of the rice it cooks for you. It also keeps it warm for upto 12hrs and can be set to cook via a timer ie you arrive home at 6pm and rice will just be finished at that time if you set it for 6pm or set it for 12pm if someone else arrives home at lunch and the rest will be kept warm for upto 12 hrs later so it’ll be good for someone arriving home after work say 6-8pm

Superb!
The rice this cooks is fantastic. Product looks and works excellently. Price is of course high, but if you're going to use it a lot, then it'll be worth it. So many different modes and settings!

Expensive for what it does
If you are a rice obsessive, the this is the cooker for you as every conceivable type of rice cooking is catered for. Cooking times are much longer than I expected though. Also, the minimum quantity of rice that can be cooked at a time is quite large (a whole measure of the supplied cup) too much for one person. Any attempt to cook a smaller amount gives puddingy results.Expensive for what it does.
