The crank is really cheesy - almost literally, being made of soft yellow plastic - and didn't hold up long to the stress of rolling up old 14-gauge electric fencing wire. A pin that sticks into the side of the reel broke before I'd filled two reels.

This is the worst wire reel I have every used. It is top heavy and hard to balance. Once you get a couple of spins on it, the handle is too hard to turn. It won't spin the wheel without a whole lot of power. My husband who is 6'4' and very strong got disgusted with it immediately.

The product description indicates that it's suitable for reeling either steel or aluminum electric fencing wire. Not true. Tried it on steel fencing wire and it would not handle it. It would not wind the wire and the handle ultimately snapped trying to wind it. It might work on the softer aluminum but does not work for steel.
