no regrets
Very good device. Turns your fairly naff cassette deck into something really very useful.Music is clear and nice. Telephone calls remarkably are clearer than in other car which has a built in bluetooth unit. The only slight downer is that the turning of the tape mechanism makes a little noise which you can hear in quiet moments in music if the car is stationary.Battery is good for 6-8 hours, but wont charge as you use it i.e. you can't plug it into a usb cigaretter lighter adapter and listen to music simultaneously.

I was very happy with this product
I was very happy with this product. It worked really well—until it didn't. It just stopped working after about two weeks. Literally died in the tape deck. There was plenty of charge left, and it won't charge now, switch on or sync.Unfortunately, as I was very busy with work and assignments for a course I'm taking I didn't get around to trying to return this until today, only to find the returns window closed three days ago. This was purchased with money I received as a birthday gift. Oh well.By the way, with shipping and the exchange rate the way it is, this cost me nearly fifty euro. That didn't bother me at the time, I've had my eye on getting one since I first heard about this product eighteen months ago and I was very into the idea. I still am.The build quality is on the flimsy side. You get that with electronics and that's ok, in fact you kind of expect it with specialised gadgets like these. A two-week lifespan is unacceptable, however, and because of the tight returns window, I'll never be able to give a replacement a fair crack at the whip. I certainly can't afford another one, and after my experience, I strongly recommend you stick with the tried and tested wired solution. It's clumsy, but it will last.Avoid.

Works fine but audio quality is average.
A nice unit that does give you bluetooth connectivity via your cassette. It works but its not perfect. Remember cassette audio was always a bit "trebley" so the sound quality lacks bass as standard so you have to compensate using the car stereo and/or phone audio settings. My cassette player has auto reverse so it would frequently flip sides and eject the cassette, I fixed this by removing a small drive gear that links to a tension wheel inside the unit, so the main drive wheels now turn more freely, a simple fix but technically I have voided the warranty.

It could have been great.
I like to listen to self development audios while traveling and this adapter was purchased to replace my old cabled adapter. The first thing you have to do before you use the adapter is charge-it-up using the mini USB cable provided. The recommend 8 hours. The adapter comes with a built in microphone which enables you to take/make telephone calls. This is hidden away behind a small hinged panel. When the adapter is in use this microphone dangles just outside the cassette opening. This microphone has a activation button which you press accept an incoming a call. When you do take the call it pauses the audio you are listening to.Once charged it is ready for use. There is a small on off slider on the bottom of the adapter next to the USB charge socket. The instructions on the adapter suggest leaving this switch in the off position as the adapter automatically activates when fully inserted into the cassette slot. Nice touch. The only reason that I can think of for turning this on at any other time would be to test or pre-Bluetooth couple the adapter to your phone. On that note I must say that my adapter coupled to my Galaxy phone without a problem. The sound quality is good via the couple device/cassette adapter is good.PROSDoes everything it should doWhen fully charged seems to last for a couple of hours.CONSThere is no way to tell how much charge there is left in the adapter which means that you may be listening to audio or on a call when the link is suddenly broken. Losing a star for this.Needs a way to keep charging while inserted in cassette slot and a charge indicator.

Top bit of kit
Fantastic bit of kit! Absolutely cannot fault this device for the money. Has literally transformed my car stereo. I didn't want to upgrade my car stereo, which is original to the vehicle and because I still like playing my tapes. Also have a 6 CD changer in the boot, so the only real issue was Bluetooth connectivity. This solves that beautifully. Other reviews mention that its noisy in the tape deck - that has not been my experience, and it is no more perceptible than a standard tape. Others have also mentioned sound quality - I did give the tape heads a good clean and demagnetize before trying, and have to say the sound is fantastic. Low hiss, and good treble and bass. Absolutely nothing to complain about there. Just a couple of minor niggles; It would be nice if it came with a cassette case to protect it; once you have disposed of the plastic wrapping, there is nothing (I use an old cassette case just to prevent damage when not in use) - for £30 they could throw one in...There is no way to tell when the device is fully charged, as the LED indicator light doesn't serve this purpose (only indicates connection)- the developer should do something about that, though after an initial 8hr charge, I find that 2hrs charge gives me around 4 hrs use, so not bad at all really. Am still going to give it 5 stars, because it connects to my phone superfast (much quicker than a rental car with built in Bluetooth managed recently...) and the sound quality is great (suggest 2/3 volume on the device you are connecting, and then use volume on car stereo to manage further.

Worked once then malfunctioned. Waste of money.
I used it once to make sure it was working and after a couple of automatic ejects from the car cassette deck, it seemed to pair with my phone and work fine. However, it has now stopped working. After charging it for a few hours and inserting it, it auto-ejects about 10 times before finally staying in and starting to "play". It even pairs with my phone but then when I play music on my phone, nothing happens. After about 1 minute, it unpairs and the music starts playing through the phone's inbuilt speaker. Then I see that the batter on the ION is dead.Do not waste your money on this item.

Here's why your music doesn't sound like you'd hoped, and a couple good tips!
I have had this little device since last November, and it has worked great! No gear sounds like some people have asked in the questions. Let me clear something up about some of the complaints about the sound quality. Remember, if you are listening to music from your Android or iPhone, then you're listening to compressed music files (like MP3 files). Compressing the music files allows you to store a thousand songs on your phone, but don't forget that MP3 compression is a "lossy" format, meaning you automatically lose a lot of the quality in the music file so the file can be smaller. Most of the loss of sound is noticed in the lower (bass) bands and the higher (treble) bands, with some loss of mid-range as well.Depending on your car stereo system, you may have some control over the bass and treble so you can correct some of the loss of sound quality, but don't expect miracles. Lossy, compressed sound files like MP3 or other formats are the trade-off you make for having small music data files that fill your phone with the music you prefer, while leaving enough room for photos, videos, and other data. This is why your music sounds fine through your headphones but you notice the drop through your car stereo. Depending on the quality of the file compression, you will likely notice some songs sound worse than others. You do have an alternative though to the loss of sound quality when using your phone. If you have a LOT of internal memory, or expandable memory with your phone for a large MicroSD card, then try music files known as FLAC, which are considered a "lossless" format. The music files are much bigger, so that's why you need a lot of built-in phone storage or expandable memory with a large MicroSD card, like a 128GB card. These cards have really come down in price. I paid about $29 for the last one I bought on Amazon. Of course, you can get smaller storage cards like 64GB, 32GB, etc., so what size you need will count on the size of your music collection if you buy or find music files in the FLAC format, while still having room for pics, videos, and so on.As far as I know, Amazon does not sell FLAC music files, so you can download free software and rip your own FLAC files from CDs (if you still have any!). If you happen to have an audiophile friend that will likely settle for nothing less than FLAC format digital music files anyway, they can probably rip some files for you from CDs or even vinyl records. (remember those?) CDs can't compare to Frampton Comes Alive on vinyl! There are other ways of getting the music you like in FLAC format, but those ways border on the questionable to illegal, in Internet parlance from the music industry. So try searching and you'll find what you want in FLAC music files. Not that I am suggesting that anyone should do anything questionable, illegal or otherwise....because that would be wrong. Now, having explained why your music may not sound as great as you were hoping when you bought this little ION Bluetooth cassette adapter, let me share with you a trick I just recently learned. If you're an Amazon Prime member, then you should know about Amazon Prime Music, which is free for Prime members. Pair up your Android or iPhone with the Bluetooth adapter. Then tap that Amazon Prime Music app, choose which station or music collection you prefer, and be prepared to be downright impressed, maybe even blown-away. When I started doing this a few weeks ago, I was amazed, and extremely pleased to hear so much of the bass and treble, even the mid-range bands that had been missing with my MP3 files were BACK!The quality of Amazon's Prime Music service is far more than a great value as part of Prime. The music quality is excellent, even when pairing up your phone with this little Bluetooth cassette adapter. And the choices found on Amazon's Prime Music is so varied and vast, you should be able to find more stations and songs than you can shake the old proverbial stick at. Don't forget that you can also add a huge amount of songs on Amazon to your Prime Music library - for free. On top of the quality of the music you will hear and the huge choice of songs to please about anyone's music tastes, remember that you are not having to use any of your phone's internal or expandable memory, which could mean you won't need to buy a larger MicroSD card. More money saved! You will be using some of your phone's data, but prices for data have been coming down and from my experience, unless you're taking that epic road trip you always planned to take back when you were in college, but never took until now, not all that much data is used while streaming Amazon's Prime Music service.Update: When the rechargeable battery in these puppies dies, it dies right then. No warning.Like others have said, there is an annoyance in the fact that when the battery is drained of power, the unit just stops working. There isn't any way to check the battery level by looking at anything on the cassette. There is no warning *beep* or other such noise to let you know you have maybe 30 minutes of power left. You're going to be back to CDs, radio or singing loudly by yourself to entertain during your drive-time. So, I did what I had read in another review and late last year I bought a second one of these Bluetooth units. I really do like them and have not had issues some folks have mentioned, so I was willing to get a backup unit. After charging the new one, it found a place in the center console of my car. Several days later, my original unit was empty and stopped as mentioned. But no bother this time as I just reached for the backup unit and popped it into the cassette player as I removed the drained unit. Pulled over so I could pair my phone again and all was well! Back to driving and got to enjoy my own tunes again. Had to remember to take the drained unit in the house and recharge it so it could be ready when the current BT cassette quits.Best solution? I don't know for everyone but it works for me!
