The Unmarked Witch

FINALLY-A Novel With Some Originality To It!
Let me start by saying, this is probably one of my favorite genres, being Paranormal/Supernatural, and involving witches. I’m not in agreement with Amazon sticking it in the Occult genre, which denotes a much darker level than is presented in this novel.I’ve been getting burnt out lately though on this particular genre. I understand there’s certain elements which will be present in all Paranormal/Supernatural based stories, but it’s becoming harder and harder to find ones in which the plot itself stands out and is any different than the last 30+ I’ve read.I also comprehend the fact that there will be your typical tropes in this category of writing. But when everything runs together, from one to the next, and with the characters, the settings, the final outcome, it presents a sense of deja vu. It’s disheartening to feel as if we’re in an era of churn and burn, with no regard to ingenuity, with the perception of freshness and creative spirit, losing points in the race for the next big series. This novel actually had most of those positives I just mentioned, and I greatly enjoyed it!There’s an awareness for the main character and it makes you want to see her succeed, and beat the odds, against all others. The world building was exceptionally fleshed out, and I could vividly imagine myself moving in and out of the diverse sphere’s existing within the different regions, areas, and communities.Additionally, I commend Lyn for making this a duology, and not trying to turn it into a trilogy, or worse.I did suffer a bit of letdown, and despondency in one of the final scenes of the book. I have a strong suspicion that what we’re led to believe, will change in the 2nd book, simply because it makes no sense to the storyline that’s been developed. I hope!I am looking forward to cracking open the next one as soon as possible!!

He will burn down the world for her even though she can burn it down herself!
The Unmarked WItch follows Raven and Bastian. Raven lives in a time when witches are granted spells and those spells are visible on their body for all to see. Raven has no marks so she is scorned and looked down upon by other witches. There are 7 covens and they are suffering under the rule of the dark king, starving and weakening. Bastian is the Dark KIng and is half shifter and half witch. The witches and the shifters do not trust each other and have been battling. When the leader of Ravens coven, the Moon Coven, is killed, there are trials to choose the next Coven Leader. Raven is one of the witches chosen to enter the trials. The Dark King oversees the trials and when he and Raven meet, there is an instant attraction. He is enamored immediately. As the trials go on, Raven starts to realize that the stories she's has been told her entire life about their world are not what they seem. From there, things escalate and the story takes off. This is a wonderful slow burn, enemies to lovers rollercoaster with a lot of action and great character development. Raven begins to come into her own and Bastian will burn down the world for her. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to immerse themselves into a world that is changing and opening its eyes to how things are not as they seem and the people you thought you could trust may be the ones that have been betraying you all along.

Conspiracies + magic + adorable familiars who can change from kitten to panther in 0.6 seconds
“Try as I might to blend in, I was a novelty. The only witch among thousands that remained unmarked, though not silenced. There were days when I wondered whether it would be better if I was silenced; a witch with no magic at all.”Raven has no marks, but she does have magic. That makes her one of a kind. That novelty isolated her from her coven, as they looked upon her with a mix of disdain and pity, and in that isolation, she made found solace and camaraderie with other outcasts (like trolls 🧌). She also had her grandmother and best buddy Kirsi in her corner, helping her become the strongest version of herself, so that one day she could compete in the Trials to become the next coven leader. The day of reckoning has finally come, but the Dark King stands in her way. He’s a bit of tall, dark, and morally grey. Also, shadow hands 😏 Obviously they’re enemies, but that only makes the journey sweeter. The Trials are fast-paced and full of magic, and I absolutely love Kirsi and her familiar Scoop (he has two forms: cute, itty bitty kitten, and ferocious panther). The world is incredibly fascinating, and it’s full of conspiracies, unknown threats, and double agents. I’m not sure how Miranda Lyn is going to get everything to closure in the next book, but I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds. Be emotionally prepared for a cliffhanger. 🫣😱Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ (3/5)

Ruim

The devil is in the details
This was a good book, a bit slow in the beginning, but it sets the scene, and you understand the hatred between the witches and the dark king. The trials were not what I expected, and it was more about them mentally than just surviving physical challenges. Without giving too much away , the ending revealed way more than the winner of the trials, and I am curious to see the outcome of these revelations.

The one book I wish I could re-read again and again for the first time. A masterpiece!
WHEN I TELL YOU I SCREAMED!!!This book literally came out of no where and swept me up. I DEVOURED this world and story so quickly it gave me a stomach ache. The world, the characters and the plot had me completely enthralled literally from the first chapter. I found a home here in this book and I want to be able to read it again for the first time over and over again.I can rave about all of these things but at the end of the day I can only recommend it and live vicariously though your first read.Goodluck

WTF! WOW!
What a book!I mean, I need a breathThis book surpassed all expectations.I really hate giving books 5 stars but, anything less would be unfair. The world building and characterisation is very good. Also the plot as it unfolds is very engaging. As for plot twists, some I saw coming but others were shocking. This book had good character development and is very well written and paced. Also includes a decent seasoning of spice. 🌶🌶🌶/5.Whilst this review contains no spoilers, I will say t his book does raise issues in regards to the beliefs we programme our children with and the importance of following your own intuition.I can't wait to read book two

This is my favorite dark witchy read!
🪶"I would break every __ rule, I would burn the world down for you. I know you're worth it without needing the time to figure it out.""Maybe that's the problem, isn't it?""Maybe it's the solution."🪶Do you like books with powerful witches, villainous men, and heart-devouring love?If your answer is yes, then this duology is for you!5⭐ and 3🌶️! This book does have content warnings.I don't even know where to begin with this book, it thoroughly wrecked me. I haven't cried this hard for a book in months. The banter and the delivery of the banter between the MCs was probably my favorite part. I was constantly captivated by them both but Bastian stole my heart and made my sob uncontrollably. My second favorite thing was the side characters. Kirsi is the perfect best friend. She's witty and loving and such a smartass. I loved all of the friends throughout this series. They were always so supportive and fun. This book is on track to possibly be my favorite read of 2023!
