Shinto Rasp File
I received this rasp file today. (March 20, 2025). I don't yet know how well it will work for me.However, it looks to be both a beast is a beautifully made piece of kit.I am an amateur who makes things from salvaged wood, (pallets and skip-diving etc.). This file looks like the tool I need to get into places where I can't go with a planer, (or don't want to risk wrecking the blade on one).Getting the first fix on a project is often a bit tricky with random timber. (Carving-off a warped edge etc.).The tool comes with instructions on how to use it. (..what to do and what to avoid). They are very clear, (I would imagine), to all the people who understand Japanese.I don't...But it still looks like a nice tool.Best Wishes and Good Luck,PatUpdate...A month on... and this is a very nice rasp tool. For me, it gets rid of the mis-match of edges a lot quicker than any other rasp I've used. I think it is well worth the £20 (roughly) it cost. The teeth on both sides (3mm and 1mm) are very sharp so wearing gloves is a good idea. The tool is highly recommended.Best Wishes.Pat

A brilliant tool
Why did you choose this product over others?:I chose this product because of the very positive reviews and it looked like the tool I needed to shave the bottom of a door which was sticcking due to swelling from the heatBuild quality:It is well made, incredibly sharp and very easy to use. It is a brilliant tool and the person or team who designed it need a medal.Value for money:By comparison it is expensive but well woth the money.

Shaves Wood like a Knife through Butter
I needed a tool to shave off a few millimetres of wood from the top of my back door, which had been jamming against the upper frame for a few years. Before purchasing this rasp, I tried using a metal file, drill attachments (including flap wheel sandpaper), various grinding heads, and even a brand-new surform from a well-known brand, all with minimal success. It felt like attempting to trim the edge of a steel girder with a nail file. Then I found this…It arrived the day after I ordered it, packaged simply. Upon opening it, I noticed the unique cross-pattern structure, resembling several hacksaw blades crossing each other diagonally. One side has smaller teeth than the other, providing the option to use either a rough or a smoother side based on the job at hand.I tested it on the top of my wooden door and quickly realised this tool was a game changer. The wood removal speed using the rough side first was instantly impressive. Sawdust was coming off what felt like ten times faster than with the previous tools. It felt like a knife slicing through butter—completely different from the earlier attempts. I had almost removed enough material from the top of the door, so I switched to the smoother side to finish off. For the first time in years, the door cleared the frame easily. It was pleasing to finally have a tool that performed with the efficiency I had hoped for. All good so far.Pros:• Well-made, solid and strong build quality; expect it to last for many years.• Features a rough side and a smoother side for different needs.• Good size; larger than your average metal file.• Easy grip with a comfortable handle.Cons:• Significantly more expensive than basic rasps and files.• Does not come with a storage or carrying case.• Only has a handle at one end.Overall, I highly recommend this rasp to anyone needing to shave, trim, or smooth wood. You really get what you pay for, and I think the price is value for money in this case, not just for completing one task, but as a sound investment for future use, so I have no hesitation in giving it five stars.I hope this review was helpful

Quirky Japanese Tool
I didn't even know these existed til I saw someone using one on YouTube. And then I knew I needed to get one. It goes nicely with my growing collection of Japanese pull saws—for which I also blame YouTube.Structurally it's like a row of hacksaw blades side-by-side. With one face having more aggressive teeth than the other. Looking at it you think it's just going to score loads of parrallel lines in your piece of wood. But it actually works and leaves a surprisingly smooth finish. It also removes a lot of material—especially if you use the rougher side. So essentially it's like a Surform on steroids.

A beast of a tool!
I am an old retired engineer and well used to tools. This tool is beautifully made and it works extremely well. My garage door had swollen with the rain and was sticking badly. I needed to remove about 4mm and this tool just literally ripped it off and the job was done in about 2 minutes. Impressive!

Very effective but not easy to handle
This is certainly a highly effective tool for removing significant quantities of wood. I encountered it on a guitar-building course, and bought one for making guitars at home - particularly for carving the neck. The finer side allows you to get a fairly even and accurate result which is ready for sanding, and in combination with a good half-moon rasp you can do a lot.I have two issues with this tool, though. Firstly, it's not all that rigid, and if you apply a fair amount of pressure, it can bend rather easily. Secondly, and more importantly, the handle is rather small in comparison with the rasping surface, and when I use it I find that I need to hold it on the upper side of the rasp as well as the handle. Since the teeth are rather sharp, this is at least uncomfortable, and can cause injury - I'm currently nursing a finger with two or three cuts from the rougher side of the rasp. I think that a better design would include handles at both ends of the rasp.
