Great for Restoration of Antiques
Bought this to refinish an antique gunstock which still had traces of original varnish, plus numerous scratches, dents, and gouges. At first I was going to strip all remaining varnish off the stock and lightly sand it with 1000 grit emory paper, but then thought I'd try the product on the stock as it was...glad I did. A light coat applied with a rag and rubbed in blended perfectly with what finish remained, filled in minor scratches, and gave the stock an overall uniform finish - no darkening, mottling, streaking or other undesirable effects. Per instructions, I let it dry 24 hours and then hand buffed it out, finishing with a light coat of crystalline museum wax, itself buffed out when dry. It still looks like an antique gunstock with all the original scratches, etc, but instead of a "damaged" stock, it has a nice, semi-shiny patina very much in character with the age of the overall firearm. Excellent product, no "solventy" smell, dries in time specified, easy to buff out, and looks great. I'm definitely sold on this product for restoration work.

Great stuff!
For me this works best when I have a dehumidifier on in the basement it seems to dry quicker. I love this historically correct finish for some of my replicas of orginal wood items. Just follow the directions it’s so easy! Food grade no horrible toxic smell.

Makes wood luxurious!
I've never used a wax/oil finish on wood before now, but I definitely will in the future! I just refinished this dresser, which was really beat up. I planned to leave the drawer fronts natural and thought I could just cover the bare wood with polyurethane. I tried this on one drawer, and the polyurethane started getting cloudy, thick, and mucky! I panicked and quickly grabbed a damp rag to wipe off the polyurethane. I had purchased Tried & True for a different project, but I thought I'd give it a try since the poly was such a disaster. The oil has the texture of thick honey, and I spread it on with a lint-free cloth. The wood seemed to just soak it up like it was thirsty! I let it set for an hour, as recommended, then wiped off the excess. The result was this absolutely gorgeous wood grain on the drawers, which feel smooth, nourished, and non-greasy. I'm totally thrilled with the result! Highly recommend!

My method
I've used Tried and True Linseed Oil and Beeswax combination almost exclusively on my bowls. Here's what I do... I spread Tried and True all over the bowl very liberally and use gloves to further spread it over the bowl. Then leave it sit for at least 24 hours sometimes much longer letting it soak in thoroughly. Then I wipe it all off with a paper towel or whatever you want to use. Then it's done. No second coats. After a couple of weeks it is dry completely. The bowl looks like it has no finish, like natural wood. I've had no blotches and the wood is protected and food safe. I like it because it is simple, quick and easy. Other products I have used I have had to apply multiple times.

Easy to apply and nice finish.
I have used Tried and True Original over several years . I find it easy to use and creates a nice finish.. I would have given it 5 stars but the can it came in was damaged and once I opened it the lid will not seal.

Great product to use on cedar greenhouses and furniture
Used this product to seal the outside of my new cedar greenhouse. It looks great. The color is rich and just a bit darker than before and beautiful. It was easy to apply and it dried quickly. I will be using this for a cedar fence and other outdoor wood items I have. Highly recommend this product.
