Hurricane recovery tested. Buy one - it doesn't suck.
I'd give this thing 11 stars if I could. The amount of time it's saved me early on in my home theater construction project, laying out complex framing within an existing room that is less-than-square, has been well worth the price. That project is much further along than it would be without this tool. I was sold on this tool being a winner just on that basis - then this stupid swirly cloud-thing came out of the ocean and wrecked my hometown. What do I mean by that? Well, the laser level saw some hard use this Labor Day "weekend," as part of the volunteer force clearing damaged drywall out of homes flooded by Hurricane Harvey in the greater Houston area.At the few houses I helped with this weekend, everyone who saw our laser and chalk line marking system had something to say about how cool and efficient it was - most telling me it was the only accurate-but-quick method they had seen. (We're all getting to be experts at this by now.)I set the laser height on a photo tripod, and worked with a friend to snap chalk lines on the walls at the laser line. We (the "laser crew!") would clear out a minute later to the next room to mark it, and another friend would saw on the chalk lines we left. A couple minute later the drywall would be out of that room and on the front lawn (easy with a bunch of people ready to get their hands on it!).Cliff notes: Hurricane Harvey sucks. A lot. This laser level and the people in my city very much do not.

Can't use lasers at angles, only level.
The level is accurate, and built solidly. It really feels like (at least on the outside) it could handle a commercial beating. It also comes in a nice case.I give it 2 stars because It won't turn on the lasers when the self-leveling prisms are locked. Which means you aren't able to use it to line up angles. In the Amazon description it says it's possible. And that's because the "international" version has that feature, but the "United States" version does not. The manual that comes with it has different sections for each model. The only difference between the US and Intl version that I can tell is that feature. I contacted support, and they confirmed that "I was reading the wrong part of the manual, the US version doesn't have that function."Unfortunately while it's nice, I'm returning it because that's actually a function I expected, and am frustrated that it's not possible even though I was told it was. Otherwise it's a good tool.

Not great quality control
I only had this product for a few days since I had to return it due to a defect, but I did try to get a general idea of its quality to see if I wanted to buy another. My findings were actually surprisingly positive considering the fact that the product was defective. The build quality is fine and lasers were both really strong and visible. I liked the case too. The pendulum machanism seemed good quality and very smooth. It adjuted quickly and as far as I could tell it was very accurate. Now to the reason I returned it. There was most likely a wiring issue or a defective part kept causing the lasers to power down when trying to adjust certain settings. At first I figured it was user error, but I read the manual and own other laser levels so I'm fairly certain I was using it correctly. I think something was wired to the wrong terminal on the board causing the issue. This is the only reason I'm not giving it a 4/5 and why Im not going to try another one. In my opinion, if the quality control and assembly process could have missed this then I'm just not sure I would trust another one. The price is really attractive for this type of laser but I think I'd rather buy one good quality one than try 2-3 inferior ones until I got one that worked.I still gave it 3 stars because it seemed to be a good unit for the price, I just want other buyers to be aware that it does seem to suffer from a lack of QC.

Worked perfectly
I would deduct only half a star if I could for one reason: shipped in the unlocked position. This means that the laser mirrors basically bumped around until it got to me.Note, the locked position is also the off position. Maybe they want customers to put the batteries in and immediately blind themselves.Very bright laser. Strong magnets on the magnetic base. Basically levels with gravity. No way to lock and place it at an angle. This is for level-to-the-ground (earth) only. Don't expect to use it to install handrails or pictures on stars.
