Unfortunately the book also came with a damaged creased cover like a previous customer. Hopefully quality control could try a little harder wrapping with books that come with a covers as the other book I ordered wasn't damaged but then it didn't have a loose cover. It's a wonderful book for my friends'(a vet) young daughterI like to buy English books (Paddington, Winnie the Pooh etc) to give as gifts as I am from England. Maybe I will try again with this one as I have been lucky with previous purchases.

This book was just beautiful! It was great quality, stunning artwork & sweet stories to go along with it! I gave it as a baby gift & she loved it!!

The stories in this book are wonderful for children. James Herriot is a charming storyteller. My boys loved the stories when they were younger. It’s a perfect book to read outbound.

I always like James Herriot books but this is for children.

I thought this would be a good story book for me to read to my grandchildren in town ages six through three. But the stories are too long, too many words on a page. The illustrations are beautiful. I enjoy the stories. I fell in love with James Harriet in PBS is production of all creatures great and small and wanted to share his funny stories with the kids. Typical weight it’s beautiful quality the pages the material hardback everything is great about the book just meant for children older than my grandchildren are right now.

I got this CD set as a new bedtime story that my 7 year old can listen to as he drifts off to sleep. We read a lot of books in our house. Our son often has a hard time falling asleep so we have a few stories on CD that he can rotate through while he drifts off sleep so we don’t have to keep him entertained and stay with him in his room until he falls asleep or keep putting him to bed over and over. This one seems to be engaging enough that he has a hard time going to sleep because he wants to listen to the story and find out what happens to the animals. Maybe after he has listened to it a few times through he will not want to stay awake to listen as much. Regardless of whether it puts our boy to sleep or not, we are pleased with the purchase.

I was looking for the original large format books, but they seem to be out of print.This is a good value, but a smaller size so the pictures have less impact. Some of the print overlaps parts of the pictures that make it very difficult to read. This seems to be an artifact of shrinking the size, but should have been caught with easy editing.

Decades ago the series All Creatures Great and Small aired on TV. Around that time soft cover large format books were released telling stories about various animals from James Harriot's life. I bought several for my children and they were quite lovely. Since the new TV series has come out those books have been reissued in a hard cover format. I purchased one for each of my children to read to my grandchildren. If you remember the old TV series and had any of those books, these are a treat to give as gifts.

I havent come across any book as wonderful as this which talks of animals and their stories..and these are not fictions..but true stories penned by the Veterinary doctor practicing in Scotland countryside. The stories are of farm animals like cats and dogs and horse and ship and pig. Each story is narrated very well to depict the character of each animal without any jargon.And what to say about marvelous illustrations of this book. There is not a single page without illustration. Rather the stories are written on illustrated pages. The illustrations very well show the countryside Scotland which seems very similar to rural India of farms and animals. Each page is a vibrant imagery. Both the illustrators have their own different style. The book has a very grand size. You would feel like a photo album..like a memoir someone had made.You would surely love this book for yourself and your kids.This review is for hardcover edition by St. Martin's Griffin (ISBN : 978-1250058133)

Ich liebe dieses Buch sehr und kannte einzelne Geschichten bereits aus meiner Kindheit. Sie jetzt alle versammelt in einem Buch zu haben ist einfach toll. Natürlich muss man zumindest Schulenglisch Niveau verstehen, um es lesen zu können.

This book is everything great about James Herriot books but tailored at 3-6 year olds. It has eight individual stories (chapters really) of fun, unique experiences that Dr Herriot shares. The pictures are beautiful, the stories are delightful that work with the realities of being a vet and life on a farm in a very gentle, non-confronting way. It truly is overwhelmingly joy-filled and so worth reading. Great for boys or girls. This book takes pride of place on our bookshelf.

The illustrations are lovely, the stories are wonderful. It is a lovely book and makes a great gift for a young animal-lover.It is at a 4th grade reading level or thereabouts.
