I have an old stereo reciever and Bose speakers that wire into it will this alow me to bring music through these old speakers and reciever?

Yes absolutely. That is the exact purpose of this item. As long as your stereo has some sort of input available. The Bluetooth receiver uses a 3.5mm Connection. On my stereo, I just got a 3.5mm to male rca cable for the connection. It may have came with the Bluetooth receiver I can’t remember. The 3.5mm plugs into the Bluetooth receiver and the left and right rca jacks get plugged into the left and right auxiliary inputs on my stereo receiver. Plug the provided power cord into the Bluetooth receiver and pair it with your music storage device(phone, tablet, iPod…) then just power on your stereo, select whatever input you connected the rca cables to, and now you can play music from your Bluetooth connected device. I say “whatever input” you connected the rca cables into, because you can use any available input that is available. For instance if your stereo has an input for a turntable and you don’t have one then you could plug your rca jacks into the turntable inputs and just select phono on your receiver. This device is just receiving a signal from your Bluetooth connected device wirelessly, and feeding it into your old stereo wired. It’s very simple to use and works amazing. Crystal clear connection. I definitely recommend.

If I don't use it for a long time, do I need to unplug it?

Not sure. Mine went out in about 2 months
