Does using the usb port show how much current is drawn? can this port's current be limited for testing?

Current drawn on the built-in USB port is not indicated on the display. The display shows only voltage and current associated with the main power outlets when output is enabled. When output is not enabled, the display shows voltage and max current settings. A USB connector could be connected to the main power output connectors and any voltage and current through that connector would be shown on the display.

is this machine good for gold and silver plating?

I don't know what voltages are required for plating, but, it is a very good supply for the money.

Can this be used as a short circuit killer to repair phones and circuit boards?

Yes, as long as it doesn’t exceed the max output rating 5A. It will go into protection mode beyond that point. I use mine daily and for the money it is top notch.

Description says 100w, but at 10a x 30v, that should be 300w output. is the description wrong?

It means you can get 10 Amp at 10v
