I'm not sure what you mean by `lighting campfires` but this torch is VERY bright and can be focused. On wide beam it will light up a large area. But if you're asking can you actually start a fire using the light through a lens, I doubt it.

Does led torch set take 18650 batteries? or any other type of battery? or just 26650? ?

Dear customer, Yes, torches LED can take 18650 batteries and 18650 battery is included in the package. 18650 and 26650 are just different in diameter, the length is the same. In addition, tactical rechargeable torch can also use AAA batteries. Best regards

Does the charging light turn green when fully charged, or just stay as all bars full, but red?

A good question, I suggest about two hours of charging should be enough as like you the the charger stayed red until I went to take the battery out then it changed to green. If you decided to use the battery pack with 3AAA battery don't forget to removed the clear plastic sleeve.
