The Lonsdale brand was founded in London in 1960 by the then 22-year-old British boxer Bernhard Hart. Namesake for his brand was Hugh Lowther, 5th Earl of Lonsdale (1857-1944), who made a name for himself in modern boxing sports in the 1890s. Hugh Lowther was a founding member of the National Sporting Club, who held public boxing fights under strict rules and thus significantly contributed to the social recognition of boxing. In 1960, Bernhard Hart opened the first Lonsdale shop on Beak Street, in the middle of London Quarter of Soho. Since then, well-known professional boxers such as Muhammad Ali, Henry Cooper, Sugar Ray Robinson, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis and Ricky Hatton have worn and worn the Lonsdale brand. Even today, these famous personalities and the most important milestones from the brand's history play a major role and always appear in the modern designs of the now extensive product line.
