I use this along side my propane forge and while both have singed my hair pretty badly, I’d say if you aren’t looking to be fighting the fire, don’t use something like lump charcoal. I’m more of a coast efficiency man, so I’ll just let it burn me. All and all it’s constructed great and works perfectly. I mounted mine onto an old stool (totally not thinking it through when mounting something that would reach a few thousand degrees on wood) with some steel and screws, works good. This is perfect for smaller projects, but if you lean it on something or lay your metal on top of a massive mound of coal you could get bigger ones to work, just make sure to bring a shield, the air out put throws sparks up if you’re using lump coal. Seriously, if you don’t wanna get your hair burnt, holes seared into your pants no matter how many you have on, or have a make-out session with flying sparks, use some cleaner coal like coke. It’s more money, and I’d rather suck face with something burning my lips than spend an extra 20-30 dollars, but if that’s something you don’t wanna do you can get better coal.

When I opened this up, I thought is this a toy? I put it together added some charcoal and yeah, not a toy. A bit of a learning curve, new to blacksmithing but add enough charcoal nice and steady on the blower and you can get yellow heat in just a few minutes on 3/8" round bar. Still learning but this is a good little starter forge.

Purchased for my son for his birthday. We bought smithy coal last year and thought we would be able to buy a forge. The ones we found were so expensive and in poor condition. I found this online and thought it was a good price point to see if this would be a really hobby or a passing interest. We put it together, loaded it with coal and fired it up. With the blower on it he was able to get some square rod hot pretty quick. He made a S hook and another hook for holding hanging baskets.

Awful product, the air hole is not completely cut, the side door doesnt even close, and the foundation piece is tilted so you must hold it down with one hand or spend more time mounting it somewhere in your home or work area. I would not recommend this forge and rather you buy a volcano brand that used propane instead of coals. In my opinion, it is much much safer and a whole lot faster to get ignited snd ready to forge.

It's a small and functional crank forge, not super expensive but not exactly high quality. Had the crank in mine lock up permanently after a few months of infrequent use, but while it worked it was a fun little forge.

I purchased this forge for my home shop. I honestly didn't expect very much because frankly it wasn't expensive and I think it may also be made in China. So, my expectations weren't very high. I just needed something for some small blacksmith type projects. Well boy was I fooled. This is an old style hand crank forge. It isn't very large at all but when you get this little powerhouse going, you'll have heat for days! It works amazingly well. I just wish the forge bowl was bigger but aside from that, for a small home forge, you won't go wrong buying this little monster. I was very pleasantly surprised and I'm sure you will be also.

By no means is this a professional forge. But for the heating of a small area of metal, it works just fine, and is actually rather fun. I cleaned out the gear box and put a lighter grease in to help it move a little smoother.

It's really small, but that's predescribed, so no surprise. You could fit a small crucible in this forge if you wanted. I'm new to blacksmithing, and I'm teaching myself. Thus far I've used this forge to bend some old damaged blades straight and retemper them, as well as working on a knife of my own design.Pros.Small, compact and easy to manage. It I've used it four times, and thus far it's undamaged.Cons.Get ready to obliterate your arms by how much you need to crank the blower in order to get the fire hot enough to work steel.For referrence, no metal I have worked thus far is anything less than 1084 Carbon steel, 12" billets are the most worked.
