Southeast Asia Memories
Reading the history of Southeast Asia was very entertaining and a good summary of the region. It brought memories of Vietnam. Only I do 't feel the Americans were chased out of Vietnam bt the VC, but by public opinion of the US citizens demonstrating and not supporting the troops. Watch the ten thousand day war documentary on YouTube. About next to the last three episodes it states Nortb Vietnam wZ about to surrender for terms, but Ho Chi Minh's generals Advised him to hold out and public opinion would win the war for them. It did!!! The American soldier was not supported and communism was not contained as it should have been.

History of Southeast Asia
There was an attempt to present individual history of the different Southeast Asian countries. But it was not scholarly enough in its analysis for its entirety. It is pretty obvious that this book presents Catholicism in a bad light. Research on the Philippines have to be more in-depth devoid of personal opinions. Lastly, there were instances of wrong grammar usage. Editing needed!

Fascinating trip to Southeast Asia!
When starting this book I knew next to nothing about Southeast Asia. My history classes didn't teach anything about these countries.I recently had my DNA analyzed and found that I have a small amount of Southeast Asian DNA, So I was excited to see this book.I really enjoyed the first few chapters about the ancient origins of the people who first founded the countries of Southeast Asia.Captivating History always does a great job introducing us to the very first beginnings of history and it is always fascinating, and it is always my favorite part of their books.I also loved reading about the king's who ruled and their stories and about Angkor Wat. I have seen many pictures of Angkor Wat and it has always made me wonder, I'm so glad I got to learn more about it here.Learning about the different religions that make up the region was also fascinating and also about their trading ingenuity. This is a fascinating look at Southeast Asia that I really enjoyed and I highly recommend it to people who don't know very much about the nations that make up Southeast Asia. Captivating History never lets us down and you will always come away from reading one of their books with a new appreciation for different cultures and their histories.

A Vast Region
Matt Clayton has compressed the history of a vast region into ninety-two pages, which is an incredible task considering he starts 40,000 years ago. This point of time during the last Ice Age has been found to have a human presence. And this area covers what we know as Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.Surprisingly, Matt compresses a great amount of detail and provides a great description of the influence of the British and Europe who backed up their businesses with the arms of its military. Never with equal resources, Southeast Asia succumbed to greater powers. The final third of the publication pulls the reader into the events of the 20th century and shows the influence of the United States and Japan.A brief bibliography is provided for further reading.

Purely Amazing Southeast Asian History in One Book — Hope for Future Standalone Releases
Captivating History has written about many Southeast Asian countries before. This title, however, collects information about several of them in an interconnected survey. The result is a grand read for all fans of world history. This text covers key moments in the history of Southeast Asian countries ranging from Burma/Myanmar to the Philippines. Due to the nature of this work, there are fewer details about these individual places. Rather, they all coalesce to form a cohesive narrative. Some the information contained here is also in previous releases, and some is new. All of the countries featured within these pages would make spectacular standalone reads, and it is my personal hope that this author would does so in the near future. The research for this content is stellar, just as it is for everything else in this series. In addition to the excellent prose and bibliography, there is a list of extra readings for anyone interested in learning more about these countries.Overall, "History of Southeast Asia" is nothing short of beautiful. In 92 pages, this author conveys essential information about select Southeast Asian entities, an impressive feat. The finer points of historical research are similarly remarkable. Hopefully, Captivating History will give us new releases about these countries in the future.

...challenge is met ...
It was quite a challenge to attempt to cover the 'History of Southeast Asia' in one book - but the challenge is met with an adept look at a diverse range of complex countries, cultures and religions over a wide time frame. Some countries are covered from virtually the dawn of time - others a few thousand years later. There are a few oops to make your smile, like: "There was a lot of baggage and unfished business……"The coverage of WWII in Asia states that: "Many Australians were concerned that they might be next, but the Japanese would not get that far." In fact, minor in the overall picture, but: more than 240 people were killed, and eight ships were sunk during air raids in Darwin Harbour, and Japanese submarines attacked Sydney harbor, killing 21 persons. The text states that: "….the majority of the Indonesian population has been Hindu, Buddhist, and Muslim." I fact: Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world, with over 227 million (87% of the total) identifying as Muslim.Oddly, there's reference to Japan 'surrendering' and ending WWII, with no mention of Hiroshima or Nagasaki.
