This is a great adapter for the ESP 8266–01 (and the fact that it comes with one of the little boards is a bonus) but you need to be aware that it is initially set up just to talk to the serial port on the board and not to flash firmware to it. In order to flash, you need to make a small modification to the board and link two pins, either with a switch or a wire. See photo. As I was just using the adapter to flash ES01s I used a solid wire. I’m giving this four stars rather than five because it would’ve been good to have this which already on the board (and a reset button would help too). But I can’t complain as this adapter effectively does what it says on the tin.

Fairly happy with this. As it's supplied, there is no way to use this as a programmer as it does not pull GPIO0 low. Easily solved with a small push button soldered across GPIO0 and GND. Other than that, it works as advertised.

Worked well together and once firmware was updated worked well on my 3D printer. Seller should really explain the need to do some soldering, as is well described on the web elsewhere.

Out of the box the device works great for running the ESP8266 as is but if you want to use it to program the ESP8266 you have to make a minor amendment. In this case adding a three header that will bridge two of the pins with a jumper. See photographs.

Brilliant serial port and great that comes with a ESP8266S01 with it but as everyone already stated, requires some work to switch between programming and listening modes.

After going through several youtube videos..I realized that I will have to solder this and that pins for it to work ...so kinda false advertisement on the seller's part.

You can not write your code to it. It didn't work for me even after doing the solda mentioned by the other users, because then you loose the serial functionality.
