Is there a way to turn off the annoying blue light that indicates wifi signal?

When I have this problem with any product, and I want it to be aesthetically comfortable to look at, I use a small piece of matching, colored duck tape over the led light. If there’s a button underneath, I draw a dot on it with a metallic pen—if necessary. Otherwise, if I don’t care about aesthetics, I use a piece of plain black electric tape… with metallic dot. It’s usually good enough to get rid of the high-glare, and makes the device livable. I do not know why everything must GLOW!

Is it possible to set a sleep timer so the lights turn off after a period of time?

Yes. It is easiest to use an iPhone, Apple TV, or iPad that stays in the home as a "hub" so you can access your lights from away as well.
