A very good wide angle camera. I did use it without the frame. The frame is a strange size. But overall I would recommend this product.

I gave it 5 stars as "so far" it is performing appropriately. It was a replacement from an older licence plate camera that had become quite scratched (lesson learned about cleaning the lens). I didn't want to run a new wire so I cut the old camera wire and spliced in this new one. The wires are VERY small and you need some soldering experience (plus a third hand) to do it properly. Anyways, everything works and it looks good. The old camera did not have the guide lines which I like. What I DO like in comparison to the old camera were the female plugs for both 12V and Video (RCA). This is great if you need to replace it. No need for wire splicing etc. Also to mention is that the licence plate bracket is metal not plastic (as my old one was). This was a nice upgrade. Last to mention, be careful when cleaning mud or dirt off the lens. Spray with (light pressure) is best (garden hose with spray nozzle etc.). I scratched my old lens by rubbing the lens with a cloth (which I thought was soft enough but it wasn't). I tried everything to buff out the scratches but to no avail and so I had to replace the camera.

For the money, this unit is amazing. My only complaint is the bare wire pigtail for power hookup is way too light. The wire must 20 or 22 gauge. Crimping it was out of the question, as was using any kind of tap as the backup light power wire was 12 gauge. So it needed to be soldered. Stripping more bare wire, without breaking it, was equally as challenging. More than once I considered making up another wire, or just stealing the connector and wire from one of the many old dc power supplies I have lying around as I can't bring myself to throw them out when whatever it was that they powered dies. Once that challenge was overcome it worked really well. The night vision is up there with way more expensive cameras.

I read a lot of reviews on this. I picked the EC170-09 model and it works excellent! Mine wasn't inverted like the rest say, the camera was right side up. The quality is excellent especially at night time and works every time. My only concern is like others say, there is no slot in the frame for the cable. I had to remove some material to not pinch the cable when mounted. Pretty minor as it's still worth the money. Great quality for the price!

Discreet camera--barely notice this addition to the plate holder. We bought this camera to go along with an aftermarket GPS upgrade that we installed this weekend. The camera was easy to install and the licence plate holder provides a classy frame to our licence plate. We haven't driven in rain or snow yet so can't comment how the waterproof element is holding up.
