The closest thing to dirt that I could find. I really like this mix.
I bought this product after searching everywhere I could for organic soil with no additives. I was unable to find any. I saw this product in a pet store, my son bought me a small bag. It was the closest looking thing to dirt, which I wanted for my Tortoises bed so they could dig in it. I liked it n so did they, so I bought the biggest bag I could get. I really like this mix, it drys out and I just mist it to keep it from being to dry or dusty. It has worked out great. The only problem I have n do not like is getting tiny splinters in my fingers if I touch it to brush it off of their basking area. At first I thought the splinters were caused by the coco chips outside of their bed area, but that's never happened before. So I now use a little brush instead of my hand. Still I like this mix better then any other I have tried. They have thick skin so I don't think it bothers them at all.

Very solid substrate mix!
I generally make my own cocktail for substrate. This is usually the base of it. I’ve never used just this mix for my vivarium before, so keep that in mind throughout this review. I generally mix this with coconut coir, horticultural charcoal, sphagnum moss, and sometimes reptichips. From what I’ve seen, it retains water very well which decreases how often I need to mist my cages to keep them at proper humidity levels. Even in the winter time with the vivariums living in my basement they stay nice and humid. I’ve kept dart frogs, scorpions, tropical geckos, and even a couple of tropical arboreal tarantulas with this as the substrate and have always had success with plant growth as well as animal health! It drains well enough that you don’t have to worry about root rot with most tropical plants. I’m very satisfied with this mix and the results I’ve seen with it!
