I really like this book! Breaks advice about taking portraits down into very direct and simply summaries with photo examples. I have read 30-40 pages and am looking forward to applying some of the techniques as I head out on a family vacation and photography my brother's beach wedding this upcoming week. This is a great buy for someone who wants to learn and improve but who may not have time or desire for a more technical book

Book is easy to understand and well-illustrated. Hope to take better pictures of people now!

i have little "people" experience, in really trying to get a shot. this has a good many helpful tips with posing, lighting, backgrounds, etc..Most of this though, is geared towards studio work, which is not something i am interested in. I cant knock the book for that, it is a GOOD Studio idea, lighting, book, with a lot of tips how to handle your clientele.for my use, its only about 40%-50% of the total book, for more "off the cuff" portraiture.if doing Set up work, planned shots, etc..with extra gear, multiple flashes/light sources, maybe even a helper.. its a solid reference guide.

Looking thru the table of contents I was thrilled with all that was covered. Going thru the text I felt let down in that the topics was not covered very thoroughly. Great book for ideas if your getting in a slump with your photography. Not so great if your expecting to really be taught something.

Concise and very clear. The Complete Portrait Manual gets right to the heart of the informative details needed to raise the quality of your portrait photography. This is my go-to book for photography tips in general, as well as what I need to fine tune my own portrait photo skills beyond the basics. It's also been a big help in me developing my own style. I specifically bought the Kindle e-book version to have it with me everywhere on my phone or tablet.

Very good read. Covers a little of everything. Your standard photography beginner book. Every detail if your main shooting is portraits.

I got this for my sister for her birthday. It tells you how to do SO much stuff, as well as has picture examples. If you have old photos you've been wanging to restore, this book can tell you how to do it!!

I had previously given Paper_Tiger_Books a two star rating, but I have revised this to four stars. The book is good enough for me to use for preparing a beginning course - I like it. I had awarded only two stars because, due to my own error, I had complained that Paper_Tiger_Books had failed to deliver the book as ordered. It turns out that they did, indeed, deliver ahead of schedule. I will not hesitate to order books from this company.
