(Spoiler alert!) Up until I saw this beautiful series, I had thought Angel Beats! was the saddest, most heartbreaking anime I had ever seen, but Air was much more heart-rending than Angel Beats!The story centres around lonely, sickly teenager Misuzu Kamio, who is gorgeous and cute, but has no friends, and is a bit strange, to say the least. She meets and befriends wanderer Yukito Kunisaki, who is wary of her at first, but warms to her quickly. As he is homeless, she invites him home for a meal and a bed for the night. However, her foster mother Haruko Kamio (who it turns out is actually her aunt), who is a bit of a chaotic character (regularly crashing her motorbike), and drinks a lot, isn't keen on him. But, they muddle along, and various other characters join the plot. Sisters Kano and Hijiri Kirishima, plus cute dog Potato (who for some reason, doesn't bark, but says 'Pico, pico!' all the time), join the fray, along with beautiful Minagi Tohno, and the mysterious Michiru. I won't go into details, beyond saying the story is absolutely heartbreaking; I never cried so much in my life. I was left bereft for days after finishing watching the series; even now just thinking about it still chokes me up. If you are looking for something light-hearted and easily forgotten, don't watch this; if it doesn't break your heart, you must be already dead!The Amazon description is wrong in that it says the aspect ratio is 4:3; it isn't, it is 16:9. Animation quality is beautiful, as is the music score (some of the songs being sung by well-known and beautiful voiced Japanese singer Lia), which sets up the very emotional story perfectly. Unless you don't like sad endings, I cannot recommend this series highly enough; it is a keeper!

I loved this anime so much, it was truly a bliss to watch. I'm not one for slice of life anime's but AIR had something about it which attracted me: The beautiful scenery, the lush landscape's, it was amazing, I loved how every bit of animation was so detailed, the storyline was always at a moving pace and you can really wrap it up in your heart. What's even great about is that all episodes including the 2 rare OVA's are in this DVD boxset, which I totally recommend. I've watched this atleast 3-4 times now and I am totally going onto my 5th re-watch. You truly owe it to youself, if you have'nt watched it already. Even if you're not into drama, give this a shot even if you have your doubts.

Get your hankies ready for this one!! What a brilliant series but my goodness - it was really sad in places (especially the end!).

Well spun plot, with some interesting characters. The first half was largely made up of, individual episodes, focussed on individual characters and their personal life issues. The second half initially delves into the historical element of the story, and ends with the main characters' personal problems, and ends with an emotive whammy. Only flaw in an otherwise excellent series, was most of the first half characters barely featured in the second half.

amazing anime with a story that keeps me coming back

I recently bought this series after watching Clannad and Kanon. And I gotta say Air is different, in some ways. First two mentioned before were polished, had a good script and really good atmosphere, overall You wanted to watch them again and again. However Air is somewhat not interesting. We can recognize characters that are similar to series, like Yukito who resembles Okazaki ( Clannad ) and Yuichi ( Kanon ), girls in Air are almost exact copy from Kanon and Clannad in terms of character and attitude. We have a cliche clumsy innocent girl, smart but slow to catch up girl, energetic brat, and "mysterious" girl. Character design is poor. Some of the hairs that characters have is just ugly, and doesnt say much about character.Script : Its confusing. Especially at the end. It has the same pattern like in Kanon or Clannd, story unravels on interaction with main character with specific girls. But to the very end You will be clueless what happened and why it happened. To me its a little bit dissapointing. There are many funny moments that will make You laugh, (I really like Key's sense of humour.)Animation is really good. Seems like they took backgrounds from real life ( photo ) and then digitaly painted them, but still its a great job. Music in this series is REALLY good, If you have a chance grab a Soundtrack. Sometimes the town itself feels really deserted like there is no people at all... compared to other series where we had many characters that just made the whole scene more lively and real.Overall I will give it 3 stars. It left me confused, unsatisfied and starving for more comedy or romance. I didn't cried at the end because the END its rather bizzare and there is nothing to cry about. If your looking for eye-wet experience go for CLANNAD or KANON.Thanks for reading.

Very interesting and rather melancholy series that had me in tears at the end. There are plenty of fun and sweet moments, but be prepared for some emotional gut punches too. The ending was a little confusing in places, but I think I have it sorted out upon reflection. Overall the series is worth a watch, especially if you're a fan of Kanon or Clannad.

This series pulls you in from the very beginning. I won't make comments on the story. Other reviewers have done a much better job of that than I could do. I'm still trying to sort things out. All I know is, to borrow a phrase from Orson Wells, that this could make a stone cry. Sad to see the misfortunes of someone so undeserving. And her dinosaur growl is so endearing.("ANIME: Storytelling at its best")

Por años mi anime favorito hasta que llego Fate Zero, la calidad de imagen es excelente a pesar de ser dvd, ojala algun dia lo licencien en bluray por aca.
