Totally inconsistent quality, but great shoes when they ARE quality; read more
So, I purchased my first set of these back in May 2019 after having been completely let down by the literal break down of my previous set of NBs (see my reviews for info if curious) and having tried on multiple other shows from NB that didn’t fit correctly. When I tried my first pair of these on...oh my gosh, HEAVEN! The uppers are made well to hug your feet, they breath, they’re legitimately a wide shoe, the tongues are wide enough, and there’s a proper extra hole at the top for tying a runners/heel lock with laces more than long enough to do so. I was totally in love with these shoes. A couple months later, when I had to get an in shoe heel lift for my leg length discrepancy, which I inserted UNDER the NB insole, the shoes were still phenomenal. Basically, within a week of purchasing my first set, I KNEW I wanted a second backup set to spread the wear/use across (6 days of lifting and 1-2 of cardio every week, plus 4-7 days of light-heavy gardening). These shoes finally went on hella sale the last few hours or so of Prime Day this year, so I ordered set #2 and another heel lift. Immediately when I pulled the second set from the box, I could tell visibly they were different, and putting them on only confirmed it. For starters, I could see and then confirm that the laces on set 2 are MUCH shorter than set 1 (but still long enough to manage a heel lock with a stubby bow/tie. Further, I saw the insoles were hooved up in both shoes, like they were too large for the shoe they were in. I thought no biggie, they’d eventually chill the hell out and stay in their places...over a month later, nope, they still hoove out as soon as you remove your feet. What I REALLY had come to love about this shoe, that the uppers begin to really form to your feet and, because of this, my heels (even the one with a 5/8” lift under it) stay in the shoe with no issues when I’ve got planks-based exercises written into my workouts, or when my trainer decides she wants to close with a 10min yoga flow. Compared to several other gym shoes I’ve owned and tried all these things with, set 1 was the only one that truly allowed me to have success and comfort with mixed styles of strength and cardio training because my feet, particularly heels, stay in my shoe no matter what. Set 2 though? Not as great. 6wks in and the shoe with the heel lift almost never keeps my heel locked in place, while the other shoe is about a 50/50 chance. Set 2 has not molded to my feet the same as set 1 (which were molded to my feet within the week, only fitting better every day since). It’s worth noting that I bought literally the EXACT SAME SHOE: black & gold size 12W. I only know which R & L shoe go together for set 1 & set 2 because of how differently set 2 is made: shorter laces, insoles that always hoove out.Don’t make the same mistake I did, should you receive a set of questionable quality. I put set 2 on assuming it’d work out its kinks and hit the gym, putting wear on the soles immediately, but here we are. Just send them back and try again, because if you get a well made set, the shoes are TRULY life changing!(I’ll add some photos when I get a chance, so as to document the visible differences.)

Great Shoes
I really like these runners, I wore them at Disneyworld and they helped my feet a bit (even though at the end of the day they STILL hurt lol) I wore these runners after the trip but they got dirty REALLY fast. I should have known because the colour is so light. I probably won't recommend this colour for everyday wear but if you can get them in a darker colour for everyday, I'd recommend these. I didn't try them while running so I can't comment on that but they are comfortable walking shoes.

Look great, don't feel great
I've never tried New Balance before but based on popularity I thought they'd be a good choice. Comparing these against my last pair of running shoes (Asics), these are far inferior, I'm afraid. The sole provides very little in the way of cushioning or 'spring', which seems odd in a 'running' shoe - they're quite tough and inflexible compared to the deep comfort and bounce you get from other brands. Also, the upper layer is very thin and doesn't provide much protection. I find the shoes to be quite tight around the ankles, particularly when you're getting into them, and there isn't much cushioning on the upper, either. Another quibble I have (which may be me being pedantic) is the laces are too long - I don't want them dragging in the mud when they're tied, they should be sitting compactly in their requisite place! I use running shoes for jogging, walking, and riding my exercise bike, but due to the thinness of the upper layer, wearing these made the straps on my bike peddles cut into my feet making it very uncomfortable to cycle.I needed to replace my Asics after a good 18 months of regular use (getting a bit dog-eared, shall we say), but I am going to have to return these and stick to what I know, I think. Sorry, New Balance - this design is not for me.
