beautiful, but
I bought this to go underneath my pedestal kitchen table, and it is lovely, but the nap is like velvet and changes color whenever it is walked on or something is moved on it. In my case, the 4 feet of the table and the 4 legs of each of the chairs crush the nap of the rug and leave white spots where the chair legs have rested. And they're quite visible. You can fluff the nap back up, unless, perhaps, the table has been sitting in the same spot for awhile. But the fact is, these white spots are noticeable and appear as flaws in the rug, especially as one moves the chairs around. The rug already has a distressed look, which is what I wanted, but the spots of crushed nap look like actual circular flaws. The rug is soft and silky, like velvet, and the nap is quite apparent, so that can be an issue. It is also very thin, which isn't a problem, but it is thinner than I expected. I have another rug by the same company, different style, and am very satisfied with it.

Sturdy and Beautiful!
I waited to post this review until I'd given myself some time to live with this rug.First of all, we wanted to buy a rug that has limited shedding. We have black hardwood floors so everything shows. Plus, we have a roomba, which has a small lint trap. Shedding overall is a huge annoyance, and I wanted to avoid that. Fortunately for me, this rug has shed very little. I had to empty roomba every day for the first week or so, but after that, the frequency that the robot's trap becomes full of rug lint had diminished.Secondly, we like to eat in the living room. In fact, we eat in the living room every day. All our friends and their children eat and drink in there, so we wanted a rug that would pretty much hide anything. I don't like owning things that I have to be paranoid about. This rug had me worried a little at first, because it's a bit monochromatic. I thought seeing stains might be easier because there's not a variety of color to hide a multitude of food colors like there would be with a Persian rug. I can happily say that we have spilled salsa, juice, and all manner of food on it, and I've never had trouble with a permanent mark. We don't drink red wines, so that I haven't tested, but with everything so far a damp rag has taken care of it easily, and the weird texture that comes from using a damp rug on this material vanishes the next time the vacuum passes over it.The photo doesn't quite do this rug justice. In person it is stunning, a wider variety of greys than I was expecting, which is gorgeous. Also, with this material, the first couple weeks you own it you'll notice that the rug is directional. It looks lighter or darker depending on which way it's running, and walking on it causes "dents" in the way the color reflects. This goes away after a couple weeks of vacuuming it every day (roomba takes care of that for me. If you vacuum yourself less frequently then it'll take longer). Also when you unroll it for the first time, you'll notice the corners don't lay flat. Don't worry, they'll "settle" in a few days. All my corners are nice and flat, and yours will be too. No need to force them, gravity will do it.Lastly, this rug may be thin, but it has proved to be pretty sturdy. My sister's puppy had her way with the edges for a solid weekend, and the only evidence was a little unraveling on the edging, which was easily taken care of with a tapestry needle. In conclusion, I'm very pleased with this rug.

Nap color differences
I bought the SAFAVIEH Vintage Collection 8' Square Stone VTG117 Oriental Distressed Premium Viscose area rug to place under the dining room table. As other reviewers have stated it is varied enough in color to adequately hide minor spills and clean-ups. It looks vintage and in most ways is as described and what I was expecting. However, if the direction of the nap is disturbed by dragging a chair, footsteps, vacuums, or chair leg dents, the rug literally appears to change color. It reminds me of those shirts kids wear with reversable sequins that flip over to a totally different color. Once seen, it can't be unseen. I'm struggling with this aspect of the rug. I assume this is an aspect of "viscose" and I will not buy another.

Very attractive, surprisingly soft
We ordered the 8' diameter rug in "Stone". Unfortunately, it is only 7' 8" which is actually a very big difference in overall size and square footage. But we love the rug so much otherwise that we're keeping it, even though it is barely big enough for our rather large entryway. So, other than the diameter being off, the rug is really nice, especially for the very low price. It is extremely soft, almost velvety. The faux distressed look is very convincing. The Stone color choice offers a rich blend of beiges and blacks. It will look a bit wrinkled in my pics; that is simply because it ships rolled tightly around a cardboard tube; those wrinkles will lay flat over time. The rug is extremely thin--EXTREMELY. But the surface does not feel so; it feels soft and plush. However, it will have no spring when you step on it. That is actually perfect in my opinion for a dining room or kitchen where you would want chairs to slide in and out easily without sinking into a too-plush carpet. For my purpose, where a little more spring might be desirable, I'll add a very inexpensive rug pad underneath and by doing so I will have the ability to add as much or as little "spring" as I'd like (by choosing different types of pads and/or doubling them up if desired). This rug could easily be mistaken by a novice like me for a handmade heirloom piece. It just looks so perfectly distressed and vintage, and for our transitional decor that includes some grand beige and espresso traditional touches mixed with some modern black industrial touches, this rug and it's fabulous colors ties it all together perfectly. We shopped hundreds of rugs and are glad we committed to this one.

Very happy with this rug
The rug arrived much sooner than we expected. It's perfect for our lounge and is just as nice as it looks in the picture. After a couple weeks, it appears to wear well and seems good quality.

Four Stars
Beautiful soft rug. Only problem is that it was brown, not anthracite.

Beautiful flat woven rug with look and feel of elegance
This viscose power loomed rug by Safavieh looks and feels like a much more expensive rug. Its finely woven, flat and silky feel mimics much more expensive heirloom rugs for a fraction of the cost. The spruce color becomes more evident depending on which way the fibers are rubbed or vacuumed. The lighting also makes a difference. Depending on lighting the rug can display the spruce or can look much more white/ivory - but it definitely has a green undertone. The complimentary amethyst and grey/black colors are lovely with the spruce. Pictures posted on Amazon are well represented; buyers can also visit the Safavieh website for more photos and detail.Initial vacuuming is showing some ‘lint’ rub off, but this is to be expected with any new rug. I’m very happy with this purchase!
