TCM Vault: Humphrey Bogart - The Columbia Pictures Collection (Love Affair / Tokyo Joe / Knock on Any Door / Sirocco / The Harder They Fall)

I was excited to find so many Humphrey Bogart movies in one package. Imagine my surprise when I opened it and instead of having 5 DVDs, I only got 4. Sirocco is missing. I'm not going to return it for the one DVD, but I'm very disappointed in the deceptive advertising when even the case said that Sirocco is included with the other DVDs. It is not.

This is a great Bogart collection from his days with Columbia. These five films are pretty good and range from one of his first to his last film ever made. TCM and SONY did a pretty good job on selecting the films to be put on this set. As done with their other Vault collections this set provides us with lots of extras and each movie includes a special introduction by Ben Mankiewicz which makes you feel like your watching the movie on TCM Channel. Great disk set for the lover of Bogart movies in your life.

I haven't got the item yet cause i live overseas. And i've only seen Sirocco and Knock On Any Door before (both of them are ok to good movies); but if you're a Bogart fan, like myself, buying this five titles separately will cost aroung 180$, so for 50$, this collections of Bogart with Columbia is more than good.When i get the package i'll write a more complete review.

Very good Bogart movies for his fans. Not his classic best movies but really good ones.

Just a positively great set, I collect Bogart's work and this set is awesome. Hard to find so many of his movies for such a great price. Had a worry when I opened it as the disc sirocco was rattling around while in transit but I played it and no problems at all! Quick shipping too!

So far only watched Knock On Any Door-the most convincing and powerful performance given by Macready.Love his ongoing battle with Bogie's defense attorney.Derek could easily have been replaced.Too bad Ben Mankiewicz didn't mention Macready's Oscardeserving performance,it makes this film for me.

I was surprised when I opened this package and discovered all the discs are DVD-R's! I know some folks likely won't mind....I'm not one of those. DVD--R'S are not as durable as "silver-faced" DVD'S. That's a fact. I must say the transfers of these films were fine,no problem there. The package,though basic,was okay as well. I returned this because the fact they are DVD-R's was not disclosed in the product information. I will add that I had no problem returning the package for a full refund.

Not speaking about the quality of the movies themselves but more so the audio and video transfer. Firstly they are manufactured DVD-Rs and not your typical DVDs and because of that, there are anomalies that are likely to exist because the quality usually isn’t as good. I’ve only watched ‘The Harder They Fall’ so far and while there is slight pixelation occasionally, overall the video quality is good... the audio though is another story. Throughout the entire movie, the audio track shows ‘phasing’ which means in scenes (such as when they are boxing), it sounds like there is wind blowing around them. It is also very prevalent when the score is playing in the background... the music sounds like it is being played through a tube. One minute there’s moments of clarity and then moments where it sounds distant and / or muddy in tone.For the high purchase price I’m surprised that TCM chose to go the DVD-R route - I know it’s a cheaper way to manufacture but it’s an almost sure-fire guarantee that there can, and will, be issues (which means more returns). Sadly as well, DVD-Rs don’t have the life expectancy as a regular DVD so after 8 or 9 years, don’t be surprised if you pop one of these movies in to find out it doesn’t work.As most of these titles are hard to find now on DVD (and are virtually non-existent on streaming services), unless you are willing to spend a lot of money buying older release versions of these titles independent of each other on bidding sites, this unfortunately is the only way to get them. As a Bogart fan, I’ll spend the money to own this collection because I want to see these movies, but I’m just disappointed that TCM chose not to have done better.

This Collection Supposed to be 5 Movies on 5 Discs, But Instead Got 4 Discs, With One Disc Missing, Called "Sirocco, I Returned Back And Re Order, The 5 Movie Set, Hopefully all 5 Discs, Will Be Included, This Time, Other than that It's a Good Collection Considering If All 5 Discs is Included, According to The Product Description.

I purchased this collection a couple of years ago because I had never seen three of the films in the collection, and I have been a big Bogart fan since I was very young. All of the films are excellent with my personal favourite being The Harder They Fall which sadly was his final film. Love Affair was a fine film, as was Tokyo Joe and Knock on Any Door. This is a must have for any Bogart fan.

Only 4 of the five discs in the package. Only way to get the missing disc is to send the whole package back BUT no guarantee a replacement available so then I lose the other 4 discs!!!. No way to contact Amazon to talk to someone."Love affair" not very good. "Sirocco" missing

The 5 movies on the disc are a good variety of Bogie films. The quality of the DVD is excellent and product arrived as I expected it to.
