Great quality product!
Works as described. I have chipmunks I'm dealing with who are destructive and purchased these as well as the LARGE RAT sized ones to deal with the Pack Rats on the Mountain where we are building a cabin. I have 8 of these set but have only caught 1 mouse and 1 chipmunk. The bait is being taken on ALL of them but only 2 out of 8 have gone off and caught anything in the 2 weeks I've had them. I put fresh bait consisting of peanut butter with a little chopped up nuts on top and they love it because the traps are licked clean. If I barely touch the trap to see if it's defective and not going off, it goes off and scares the life out of me but for some reason or somehow they aren't going off very often with the mice and chippers. Maybe I'll try some cheese but I fear that will dry out and not entice anything. Perhaps they are going up the backside of the trap after it's set and not touching the pad at the front thus causing it not to grab em!!!

Rats laugh as they steal the bait
I have set these traps quite a few times in my barn (confirmed rat by sight) but every time the bait is eaten but the trap has not spring. Either the vermin have a long reach to the food pot or else they sneak up by a rear attack. Gave 2 stars because it is a substantially build product. There are 2 basic types of snap traps [1] bait-triggered and [2] platform around the bait-triggered. The old fashioned model had a wooden base with a clip to attach a piece of bread or cheese; the trip-wire was balanced under the clip with bait so when that moved the spring would be released and the snap would travel 180 degrees for the rodential interaction. It was messy because you had to handle the same snap-wire that killed the rodent to release the rodent and reset the spring, and it was risky because it was difficult to hook on some bait and cock the spring without risking your own fingers. Enter the new and "improved" snap trap - cleanable plastic, two wires, 1 for setting/releasing and 1 for snapping, 90 degree traverse was less risk to fingers. The difference is the bait is in a stationary compartment in the center of a little plate or platform, onto which the beast supposedly steps to get to the bait. The old kind - the bait plate sprang the trap - the newer kind - the platform around the bait springs the trap. In my experience, both types of traps can be robbed, but with the stationary bait trap, they have stolen the peanut butter every time. Possible solution written with Snap-E Mouse Trap-6 Pack -- exactly same style of trap, except smaller for mice.

Does the job reliably. Safe to set.
This works well and is very easy to set, most of the time. There is something a little odd about the "cocking" mechanism that doesn't always allow it to open to receive the bale but wiggly it generally works and once it sets it does so more securely and with your fingers in the way of getting snapped like traditional wood and metal mousetraps. After using it for a while the cocking mechanism seems like it might be wearing out so 10-12 snaps might be a good lifespan to count on; but some may last longer. I packs a good wallop and had no problem with a medium size wood rat.

Steel Bar Rat Trap Superb Spring Action
I just recieved a set of rat traps in the mail today which I purchased from my Amazon Prime Membership Account for $6.99. Within 5 minutes of setting the trap out with a dab of peanut butter and a piece of dog food imbedded in the trap bait tray, wham! This trap (pair of 2) has a spring action that I feared might snap on my own finger if I wasn’t careful enough. I saw the rat in the backyard a couple of days ago and with my prime membership and quick shipping service I can now breath easy. Fat rat is gone!!!!!

Good but it's time is limited
The traps work well but there are some draw backs. I trapped 5 rodents who have been wreaking havoc in my garage. One was trapped over night but only caught by its hind end and tail. I took it back out and let it go only to discover the plastic yellow band on the hammer and a portion of the black trip plate had been eaten away by the rodent. If this keeps happening it may render the trap useless. It does do a good job of catching them if you mix a little birdseed with peanut butter. They can't resist it.

The Terminator Has Arrived
This thing is a killing machine! Within an hour of opening this two-pack and putting them outside, my backyard is already down two chipmunks. Even my girlfriend was morbidly fascinated by the killing power of these machines. I definitely recommend these if you have chipmunks tearing your yard up and planting seeds in random spots in your garden.***Update: Within just a few hours I've already rid our yard of FOUR of these pests. Nothing fancy either. I just put some black oil sunflower seeds in the bucket and put it right outside one of their main dens and have gotten all four there.

They are easy to set
Unfortunately, our entire area in North Texas has had a major rat problem this summer. I bought these traps just to be on the safe side in case any little rodents decided to pay us a visit. We live by an open field so the possibility is high. We have had no signs of any rats so I set them up outside. First night.... BAM!!! Caught one. I will spare you the pictures, but these traps work! I used a small bit of peanut butter in the food trap. They are easy to set. Pretty much fool proof!

Faster than rat reaction times. There was no escape.
My handicapped brother had a rat. I set the traps. When we returned from a movie the trap had a rat. These are great.I've set the regular old wooden traps for years. I've always figured the snap was slower than the rat. The rat could jump back faster than the trap could close. Most of the time the rat got the bait. Not so with the Trapest. It's fast. I suspect it's faster than rat reaction times. It worked.Plus, pulling back on the clean handle dumped the rat in a plastic bag.Yep, they built a better mouse trap. Way good.
