Epic Let Down!
Purchased to be given to every patrol officer in our department, these were a real let down! We tested several at a local junk yard and after attempting to break several different windows on several types of vehicle, we were very disappointed. We will be returning these as quickly as possible.

Good Advice: For best results hit or strike (with the pointed end).... at the top corners of car window
I gave these out to friends and family as gifts ... very affordable and every car or truck should have oneNote: I was informed by my neighbour, who is a volunteer fireman ...*** The best place to hit or strike the car window is in the top corners for best results***...... (not in the middle)

Great value, but the question is...will this design work?
Our area recently witnessed historic flooding. Tragically, several people drown their cars when swept away or when they drove into standing water deeper than they realized. Seeing this tool on Amazon at this price, my wife and I thought it both a good idea for us and a great stocking stuffer for friends and family this holiday season. In fact, I took one of these to work to show our safety manager. She was looking for ideas for our corporate safety day observation. Again, because of our area's recent events, she too thought it a great idea and promptly ordered roughly 800 of this same design (though not from Amazon) with our corporate logo embossed on them. About 2 weeks before our corporate safety day, a volunteer fireman who works at our location took the tool I had shown our safety manager (one I had purchased here) to demonstrate how it worked by breaking a car window. It didn't work. In fact, he banged on the car side window until the tool actually came apart (the two halves are held together with screws that loosened up). Now, I am not saying the tool wouldn't work in an emergency. The fireman was not using it in the exact same way that you would in an emergency. By that I mean that when he was demonstrating the tool, he was standing outside the car and the car was obviously not under water--not under pressure. He was also wearing gloves which, due to the very short hammer point, meant that his hand was possibly in the way of the point hitting the glass flush on. If you were in an emergency, you would be inside the car with water pressing in and without gloves. So, I am torn about how to review this escape tool. Obviously, it's a great value given you can get 8 at this price. However, the question is will it work? Unless you decide to experimentally break the window in your car, you won't know. My suggestion is that if you are buying a tool like this that you look for a design with a longer hammer offset so that your hand will not be in the way. Even if you pay for one what you are paying for these 8, it's still a cheap lifesaver. If you do decide to got with this tool design, remember that you should hold it so that your hand does not interfere with the point of the hammer hitting the window squarely on.I am giving this 2 stars. The seat belt cutter did work fairly well. That's not the main reason most people order ths tool, but I can confirm that with a taut seat belt the cutter will do the job.Be safe.

Cheap, broke while needed, wouldn't trust it for emergencies
I purchased these Oct 2015. I was excited to get these as gifts for our family members. Our "neck of the woods" had just experienced a terrible flood in which one driver drowned in her car bc the electrical system shut off after being hit with water. She was talking on the phone with her friend at the time, worried, and couldn't roll her window down. That story haunts me still. So I wanted to make sure all my loves' cars were equipped with a safety hammer, praying they'd never need to use them.Fast forward to a few weeks ago. My mother and another passerby saw a man slumped over in his running car during the morning drive to work. They both pulled over, my mom grabbed the hammer so they could break the window to get to the man. He was unresponsive. The metal point broke off and fell in the grass somewhere between my mom's car and the man's car. They searched and couldn't find it. They weren't able to get to the guy until paramedics arrived. Disappointing! I'm still giving this product 2 stars bc the seatbelt cutter does work.

Good thing we were not counting on this tool to ...
Went to use today. A woman was pasted out in her car do to an accident the car was locked with the windows up. When I went to use this tool, the tool broke and did not brake the window. Have had a false sense of security for a year and a half. I will be telling our children and all whom we gave them to, to throw them away as they do not work. We will find a higher quality escape tool. Good thing we were not counting on this tool to get out of a vehicle.

Where's Waldo? Hmm, I mean Kathy!
So this last summer my siblings and all of our spouses went on a camping trip. While out one day we decided to go check out the local beach. There were 3 cars since there were a lot of us. My brother his wife and two of my sister's parked the car they were in. My brother and his wife got out, he opened the door behind him to let one of my sister's out. The other sister was texting on her phone. The 3 that were out of the car all walked away. The last sister went to get out of the car and the child locks wouldn't let her. She started to bang on the window to let the others know that she was locked in the car. They didn't hear her. She ended up having to climb over the seats to get out of the car. They are all over 50. I wish I could have witnessed it myself. Now instead of Waldo it's "where's Kathy?" So these escape tools are a Christmas gift for all of my siblings and their spouses. They look great and I think they'll work great. I hope they are never used.

Please buy this for your loved ones
I live in Houston, it floods a lot and I understand how people can think they can "make it" through the flood waters because you can never tell how high something is. Of course you should never attempt and just try and turn around but sometimes other cars behind you block you for turning around and you end up getting stuck under the bridge as the water continues to rise, before you know it. You're underwater and it's too late to leave. EVERYONE BUY THIS FOR THEIR LOVED ONES! This is a must have in every car. Can even be used as a weapon for predators too.

Window breaker does NOT break car windows. I have ...
Window breaker does NOT break car windows. I have tested it twice on a junk car's window, and, in a couple of blows, the braker broke - as the car window remained intact without even any scratches. It does not function as intended.
