I’ve had these switch covers for nine years now and they look as good as they did the day I installed them. I thought after a while that the plastic would begin to yellow or discolor in some way. Nope. Not one bit. It’s not a cheap plastic either. Very solid.

I arranged my house to my liking, but my PC was connected to the outlet that was meant for a lamp. I bought three of these and just installed one of them. It might have taken 10 minutes, if that. Part of that time was spent clearing away debris in the garage so I could get to the switch. The cover prevents me from turning off the switch to the outside lantern that contains a light-sensing bulb which turns itself on and off automatically at sunset and dawn. Meanwhile, the switch that turns the garage light on and off is uncovered.I'm saddened to see that the majority of the criticisms for this product come from parents who are expecting this cover to do the parenting for them. The fact is, once upon a time there were no plastic switch covers and yet kids did not turn on the lights without their parents permission. Because if they did, they got a good whooping. It's amazing how effective that was.If you're expecting this product to do your parenting for you, you will be sorely disappointed. Any cover that would be 100% effective against your children would ALSO be 100% effective against you. This product is NOT a child guard. And IMHO, I doubt that such an item could be invented. A people-proof guard, yes. But a child-proof guard, no.I suppose if you're willing to spend thousands of dollars, someone could invent a guard that takes a reading of the height of the person standing in front of it, and then makes a decision whether to let that person turn on the switch or not. Such a "child-proof" guard COULD be manufactured. However, none but the wealthiest parents in the world would ever purchase such a thing. So you're not going to find anything like that on Amazon.If you're looking for something that will prevent YOU from accidentally turning on a garbage disposal or accidentally turning off a security system, this is what you've been looking for. By choosing the available options built into this product, you have a range of choices from maximum to minimum coverage. Of course, that DOES require reading the instructions. Which some of the people criticizing this product (obviously) failed to do.These covers are clear so they will not match your present covers. Ivory and white covers are available from other manufacturers on Amazon. But they're more expensive AND you will not have the range of coverage options that you do with these. After installing the cover in the garage, I starting asking myself, "why didn't you buy matching covers?" Well, I researched the available products on Amazon and remembered why. Because these have the best range of options at the best price.If you're a parent looking for a solution to your children turning on lights, then this product is NOT for you. Move on. I suggest that you fly out to Beverly Hills and find a shop on Rodeo Drive which will custom make the product you are seeking. On the other hand, if you're an adult and you're looking for a quick and easy solution to prevent you from inadvertently flipping the wrong switch, this is EXACTLY what you've been looking for.
