Not a book about inclusion or diversity
This book didn’t have any type of story line. While it may have captured many different shades of children it captures very little diversity in that it didn’t show religions. It showed children dressed up as heroes, clowns, or preppy outfits but showed zero diversity by way of religion or ethnicity. It was the complete opposite of his page, grouping all people together as children but at the same time not showing enough different types children in different settings. Utterly disappointing and grateful I didn’t show this to my children before I read it as they themselves weren’t represented in this book. This is not a book about inclusion.

Lacking content
Lacking in content. Children have so much to say, and I wish this book included conversations or quotes from the children. The photos are nice, but the book would be really powerful with words of children. I would not have purchased this book if I'd realized it was only pictures.

Wonderful book!
I absolutely love the photos in this book! It is so important to me that my kids recognize that there are all types of people in this world, our differences are what makes the world beautiful, and despite our differences, we have many things in common. This book allows me the opportunity to have that conversation regularly! Thank you, Brandon. You have done beautiful work!Side note: Other reviewers have noted displeasure in the 'storyline' or lack thereof. If you're looking for a good read-aloud text, this is probably not it. It is more a phenomenal picture book that lends itself to some great discussion.

The text is a bit lacking, but visually it's excellent
I was so excited to get this for my little cousin because I'm a HUGE fan of HONY. The quality of the book itself is great and so are a lot of the photos. If I'm being honest, I didn't love the text of the story. I'm not sure what I expected, but it didn't have the same depth that I'm used to from HONY posts on facebook and instagram. I didn't expect some profound philosophy, but it just left me feeling a little unsatisfied text-wise.It's great for kids who are at the pre-reading age who like to make observations and point out things in books. It would be good for discussing diversity, colors (many of the photos have kids in very colorful outfits and costumes), and teaching new words by pointing and explaining.

Not a collection of kid profiles - just their pictures
I bought the kindle version of this book and was quite disappointed. I thought it was going to be like the actual HONY website with the kids and their stories/profiles, but this is basically a coffee table book with just a collection of photos of children and some generic storyline about how kids are great all over the world. I hoped the story would have more substance but it doesn't. Also, it is INCREDIBLY short, about 20 pages? I felt ripped off, which is sad because I LOVE the actual site. It would have been great to read stories about kids all around the world, instead of just looking at their pictures.

My baby is obsessed with this book!
My 9 month old daughter received this book for Christmas and she can not get enough of it! Any time she sees it, she lunges for it and hands it to me so I can read it to her. (She has NEVER done this before with any book or toy) She loves looking at all the faces of the beautiful kids and has me read it to her multiple times in one sitting. We'd love an even more simplified version in a board book if you'd ever make one! Until then, this book is getting a tremendous amount of love in our house!!

An instant hit!
This was an instant hit with our twin girls (aged 3) they took one look and said they want to read the 'friends' book. It's a short and simple bedtime read with positive messages about how children learn and grow accompanied by charming photos of the children of New York City. (New Yorkers will have fun trying to place which street and which block the photos were taken on). It's a great visual book with a lot of appeal to younger readers. There's not all that much there for parents but at least it's a fun and easy read.

Boring
We have the original version (grown-up version) and my 5-year-old wanted his own to see other kids. It turned out to be underwhelming. Has a feeling of infant “my first book of other kids”, too watered down.

Love HONY
Having followed the HONY page on Facebook I bought this to read to my daughter. I was surprised at the lovely story and quality of the book (until she can hold it no doubt!) and would recommend it to anyone that wants their child to see more than cartoon and animated images when reading.
