First time use was good experience
I bought this product to try it for my pond plants repotting project this past summer. During the project, we were also replastering the 800-gallon fish pond. All the pond plants had outgrown their pots and buckets and containers having been in them for 15+ years, so I decided it was time to repot and replant everything. (What a stinky nightmare!) This planting media is easy to work with and not as messy as the dirt type I previously used.A couple of the new containers were plastic baskets with mesh sides. I added a piece of fine mesh netting (remnants from old pool leaf nets). After adding the planting media, I hosed it down thoroughly, then set the container inside a larger container filled with water to test the media for absorption. The end result is that I don't think the second step of soaking is even necessary. Just give it a thorough rinsing before using it. I found it easiest to fill the container about half, then add plants, followed by more planting media. Slowly submerge into your pond or water feature. I put mine on the bottom of the fish pond and let the water fill around it. Worked perfectly.I will definitely buy this again.

for my underwater plants
I've never used aquatic planting "soil" before. I can only speak to this specific product as I have used it.I have a 300 gallon pond. Not too big. There are 2 fish and a turtle that preside there. I have some floating plants but wanted live below the water line plants. This medium worked great. I do not have to worry about dirt in my pond. My pond is man made and has clear water with natural good algae, not the stringy type. The turtle still dug into this but with my pond vac it was easy to retrieve.I am not sure what I am going to do with this big bag, but I'm sure I'll use it again.

the best
The very best medium I have used for potting aquatic plants. The plants thrive. No foul odor. Doesn't cloud or "muddy" the water. Makes transplanting/dividing plants easy when they outgrow their pots -- rinses cleanly off the roots. I have potted a variety of aquatic plants in this medium in the bog section of my garden pond, and in a small water feature on my patio, constructed in a large galvanized tub. These include water celery, arrowhead (duck potatoes), miniature cattails, and corkscrew rush. I also have two dwarf waterlillies potted in baskets in the bottom of my garden pond. All have overwintered and come back healthier with each successive year, without repotting until they ouotgrew their pots and had to be divided.I have been very satisfied with all of the Micrrobe-Lift products I have used. It is a brand I trust, and where I look first for a solution to any challenge my water gardening presents me.

Good Enough
It seems to be okay so far. It is very heavy to work with though. It overwhelmed the cloth pot and made it fold down down. It is fine for now but I may have to make adjustments later. The plant is growing fine.

So far, so good . . .
I'm not much of a green thumb these days, but I had been given some lotus seeds and so, I tried to sprout some, and lo and behold, they actually did! Now I've gone down the rabbit hole of learning about how to grow water plants, namely, nelumbo nucifera. I researched growing conditions and purchased a tub to hold enough water and this medium sounded like the ticket! I also purchased some submersible "baskets" to hold the medium and the growing lotuses and they are now doing great! (Hope I didn't jinx them too soon.)
