Having recently retired, and having seen Catherine Cooksons films on Sundays on the Discovery channel, I looked up on the net to see what other video's she had done. To my astonishment, I saw that Amazon were selling 24 x 3 hour videos in a package that was just too hard to resist....The Catherine Cookson Collection [DVD] [1956]....AND, UNDER £30....amazing! We are half way through them, and are amazed at the authenticity of all we have so far seen. The attention to detail throughout is fantastic. The stories twist and turn all over the place, and are rivetting to watch. sooooo many times I could have screamed at the telly to tell the stars "to open their hearts and declare thier feelings", but, oh no, Catherine makes me suffer......yeah, she was a fantastic and prolific writer, and, I hope a lot more of her books are put to video. Value for money????? YES, YES, YES. Get it, you wont regret it. You will note, "Nut 'Appy", above......DISREGARD ON THIS OCCASION, AS I AM "VERY 'APPY".

While clearly the original material is quite old and the video presentation is not up to modern standards, my wife and I found this series quite excellent in terms of the film sets and the magic and emotion of the stories. These stories capture the wonderful imagination of Catherine Cookson at her best and create a marvellous vision of life in the North East during the 1800's.This DVD box set represents fantastic value at only nominally £2 per DVD and my wife and I only wish we could give this set 10 out of 5 points rating and there were more than 24 in the series to view.

If you're a Catherine Cookson fan, this is a must have set. All her classics.If you're new to Catherine Cookson, you might want to check out some her films on YouTube and get your toes wet before you buy the set, but Catherine Cookson never fails to delight so if romantic novels is your thing, jump straight in.Her stories are English romantic love story novels, many done in rural Northern English towns around the turn of the 20th century where Catherine Cookson grew up as a girl. Suitable for the all the family to watch and enjoy. No naughty scenes!

I Love the books of Catherine Cookson this set is as close to the books as you will find with the exclusion of The Black Candle this disc only told half the story the book told a bit disappointed so that is why only 4 star.

I was only really aware of Catherine Cookson's novels through my wife's library of books, excepting for a brush with the Mallen Streak many years ago in between voyages to sea.I wanted to get to know her work better; and I have been happily working my way through all of her dramatised work; much to the entertainment of my wife!Sadly these are of course transcriptions from the old cassette recordings. I would love to have seen these done in HD naturally.They are however an excellent buy and highly recommended.

The Catherine Cookson Collection DVD set is the perfect antidote to poor television programming. As the World cup and Wimbledon were about to start I decided to purchase some alternatives. I bought a couple of Catherine Cookson dvds and then realising how well made they were, I thought I would look and see if Amazon had an offer on the whole set...they did and I ordered.What a great offer...I have hours of amazing period costume drama to dip into when ever I feel the need.

The reason why I purchased Catherine Cookson 23 Feature Length Adaptations Complete (24 discs) DVD Box Set Collection is that I have already all the featured stories in my collection but in VHS and since I do like to watch them often, I decided that there was a better way to own them and I got them all together! Much easier to handle and still great|

Product is excellent, do need a multiregion DVD player for this particular DVD set. First order was "lost" in shipping,but it was made right in the end.

Excellent. .but did have to buy a multi-region dvd player to play them

Nachdem ich alle Jane-Austen-Verfilmungen abgegrast hatte, war ich auf der Suche nach andern Historien-Filmen und bin auf Catherine Cookson gestoßen. Sicherlich, sie ist keine Jane Austen, aber die Filme sind schön gemacht und man findet hier auch viele bekannte, britische Schauspieler (Sean Bean, Catherine Zeta Jones ...) wieder. Die Geschichten gehen nicht alle gut aus, einige sind sogar sehr tragisch, aber sie sind alle recht kurzweilig und bieten gut, solide Unterhaltung. Ich hätte gerne noch so einen 24 er-Pack.

Hatte das Glück, diese Box sehr günstig über Amazon Marketplace zu erstehen und bin superglücklich damit. Nicht alle Filme haben mich begeistert, aber die Mehrheit ist wirklich top! Leider sind diese Filmperlen nur in englischer Sprache erhältlich und ich schaue doch lieber Filme in deutsch. Allerdings kann man hier die engl Untertitel zuschalten, so dass nicht allzu viel verloren geht.
