I have run this model of skimmer for six years and it has worked perfectly. It takes three or four weeks to break it in, after that it does the same job that the big brands do. I just bought another one to have as a spare because it is getting hard to find. For the first week or two keep the red knobs turned all of the way down and open the air valve but keep the bubbles at the bottom of the cone until the skimmer breaks in. After that do small adjustments until you get it set for your aquarium volume. Thanks

The media could not be loaded. I have had this protein Skimmer for a while now, it took weeks to break in, but every time I clean it, I have to go through another break in period, there is no way to adjust it to a dryer lever, the cup always fills up, when it does work it's very intermittent and still fills the cup, I have to constantly watch it for overflow, not a good product at all. Tons of micro bubbles in my tank. Update, still the same this product is really bad

This protien skimmer does the job! It's a bit finikee to get it to work right but once its broken into it works like a charm! I've used it as a hang on back skimmer and for in sump! Works good both ways! The pump is amazing on this thing as well.

I'm just setting up my skimmer (or trying to). There are no clear instructions on how to assemble the skimmer. So far I have not been able to assemble it myself and have found no online help for the set-up of this mini version. The problem is there are no diagrams or pictures to let you know what the instructions are talking about or which parts they are asking you to connect. It's a bit of a guessing game, really. I'll update my review after I figure out how to assemble it, but for now I'm stuck. Another issue is that the measurements of the footprint do not include room for water intake or the cord. Because of the inaccuracy of measurements in the description, these do not fit in my sump and will need to be returned.

Super happy with this purchase! I was very skeptical about buying a skimmer since it was my 1st time, but I've got to say this unit is working wonders. It was very easy to set up. I had it dialed in after 2 days on my 75 gallon reef tank. It has been producing skimmate like crazy! I read many reviews saying that this particular skimmer was noisy, but I can't hear it. I would highly recommend this skimmer to anyone on a budget. I will post any updates if something changes in the future. 5 starsUpdate: 1-5-20Still going strong! Can't adjust pump output, so skimmer collection cup fills almost immediately. Pump seems too strong for the size of the skimmer. Tried removing elbows as other reviews stated. Even with overflows wide open, and air turned off, the skimmer quickly fills the cup with clean water, and overflows the cup capacity. Even with fresh clean saltwater it does the same thing. I've seen this too many times with venturi skimmers where you can't control the pump input. The outlet tubes need to be larger to work properly. Maybe after the pump gets a little tired, or if you could restrict the pump output. Too much trouble for something that needs to run reliably 24 x 7.

I purchased this skimmer to replace an old CPR SR-2 in sump skimmer. The information says that it will work in tank or in sump.Here is the problem; this skimmer has no flow regulation or level control. You are not able to tune this skimmer, and it must be adjusted by adjusting the water level in the sump, or the height of the skimmer if in the tank.Therefore, for this skimmer to work in sump, you must keep your sump water level consistent. This is difficult without constant maintenance, or a float switch top off system. The water evaporates, skimmer won’t foam up to the cup and collect. The sump too full, the skimmer overflows.Forget about a canopy if you put this skimmer in your tank.Buyer beware.
